The month of July 2017 has been phenomenal for Toyota Kirloshkar Motor in India. The Japanese carmaker registered its best ever July sales of 17750 units accounting over 43% growth as compared to the domestic sales of the same month previous year. With achievement of these figures, the company also marked its third highest ever domestic sales in a month. And it’s not limited to the domestic market, Toyota exported 1,723 units of the Etios series previous month. In July 2016, the Toyota Etios series had recorded sales of 12404 units and 1,344 units in the domestic and export market respectively.
The company’s bread and butter products – Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner – drove in huge volume in the month of July 2017. Both the vehicles registered their highest ever monthly sales since their launch. Last month, the company sold over 9300 units of the Innova Crysta and over 3400 units of the Fortuner. While the new-generation Innova MPV was launched in May last year, the all-new Fortuner SUV was rolled out in November 2016.
Besides these two products, the Toyota Corolla, Platinum Etios and Etios Liva were among major contributors in the total monthly sales of the company. However, the Toyota Camry Hybrid witnessed a fall due to price hike after the GST implementation. The company instantly passed on the benefits of the GST to customers from the beginning of July. The new taxation system is one of the major factors that favoured the Japanese carmaker and helped achieve its highest-ever monthly sales in the domestic market.
Commenting on the sales achievement, Mr. N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “ We are thankful to the Government for the biggest indirect tax reform of the nation, which has helped us maintain the double digit growth this month. Last month, putting the dealers need ahead we had consciously taken the decision to lower the volumes of vehicles sold to the dealers. We wanted to ensure that there is minimum burden on our dealer partners of any differential tax post GST. However, we are delighted that with dedicated efforts from all our stakeholders we have been able to achieve the milestone of best ever July sales.
The Innova Crysta has seen impressive growth this month, with over 9300 units sold. We are delighted that this month our MPV leader has achieved the milestone of highest ever sales globally. All New Fortuner has also been a major contributor to the overall growth with over 3400 vehicles sold, which is the highest ever in India since the launch of Fortuner. Apart from the SUV segment, we are happy that Corolla, Platinum Etios & Etios Liva have also witnessed a positive growth momentum in the month of July and contributed towards the overall growth.
However, the customer demand for our strong hybrid product Camry Hybrid has seen a significant fall owing to the price hike as per applicable tax under GST framework. We hope the Government would reinstate the preferential (lower) tax rate in favor of clean and green technologies such as strong hybrids similar to pre GST era. This will greatly help improve the economic viability and hence aid the consumer in choosing this advanced technology over petrol/diesel vehicles.” Added Mr Raja
