Toyota Considering New Rush Compact SUV For Indian Market

2018 Toyota Rush India Launch

– If launched in India, the new Toyota Rush will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and Nissan Kick.

– The new Toyota Rush is a 7-seater SUV and could share its mechanics with Corolla Sedan.

– It is expected to be priced in the bracket of Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh.

There is no doubt that the compact SUV/Crossover is the fastest growing segment across the world. Launches like Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta have also set the Indian compact SUV segment on fire. Japanese automaker, Toyota has a high-selling model – Fortuner – in the premium SUV segment. However, the company does not have any product in the affordable SUV segment which is gaining huge popularity among Indian buyers. Though, Toyota has some SUVs in its global porfolio which could make their way in the Indian market. One such product is the all-new Toyota Rush, which was recently launched in the Indonesian market.

If media reports are to be believed, the company is planning to bring a new SUV from its global portfolio to Indian market. The new SUV will be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The report further adds that Toyota may launch the Rush or the CH-R in India. CHR is based on the Toyota’s New Generation Platform, which will make it pricier for the Indian market. On the flip side, the Toyota Rush is based on a low-cost platform and it could be the product that will be launched in the Indian market in coming time. Inspired by the Daihatsu FT concept, the 2018 Toyota Rush receives comprehensive design and feature updates. The Rush is a 7-seater model, which might give it an edge over its five-seater rivals including Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur. This SUV might impact the sales of Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500. At the moment, Toyota will launch the new Yaris mid-sized sedan in the Indian market in 2018.

Toyota Rush India Specifications

The Indonesia-spec 2018 Toyota Rush is powered by a 2NR-VE, 4-cylinder petrol engine benefited with Dual Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) technology. This petrol motor is capable to deliver a top power of 102.57bhp (104PS) against 141Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties on the SUV are taken care of by a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. While the former is available on the entry-level G variant, the latter one is offered on the TRD Sportivo variant. The front-wheel drive (FWD) system comes as standard across the carline.

Rumour has it that the India-spec new Toyota compact SUV will be developed to house a diesel powertrain. If it happens, the compact SUV might share its engine with the Toyota Corolla Altis. The sedan’s 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder D-4D oil burner makes 87.2bhp at 3,800rpm and 205Nm between 1800rpm – 2800rpm. However, there is nothing official about the technical specifications of the vehicle.

Toyota Rush India Mileage

It would be quite early to make a comment on its mileage as the engine details are still unknown to us. Though, we can expect it to be as fuel efficient as its Indian rivals. Check Out – Upcoming Toyota Cars in India
