Toyota RAV4 SUV – Is It Coming To India?

In March 2021, Toyota Kirloskar Motors registered a growth of 113.60% with total sales of over 15,000 units, which is highest in the past 8 years. In order to further boost its sales, the Japanese carmaker is planning to expand its product portfolio with a range of new models including the new-generation Fortuner. The company has also been testing its two global SUVs in India, namely, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota C-HR.

While the carmaker remains tight lipped about their India launch, the models are likely to come as CBU units under the government’s new import policy. Rumour has it that the RAV4 SUV will hit roads just before the 2021 festive season. If launched, the model is likely to be offered with hybrid powertrain and cost near around Rs 50 – Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota RAV4 Prime Hybrid

The Toyota RAV4 hybrid version features a new 2.5L, 4-cylinder inline engine coupled to Toyota Hybrid System II with e-VVT (Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission). Its combined power figure stands at 218bhp. The SUV has a motor/generator, mounted on the rear axle, enables hybrid system to transmit power to all four wheels. The hybrid SUV is claimed to do 0 to 100kmph in less than 9 seconds. It has three driving modes – Normal, Eco and Sport and offers features such as Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and Trailer Sway Control (TSC). Globally, the SUV also comes with a 2.5L engine and an 8-speed Direct-shift automatic gearbox.

Some of its key features include 11 speakers JBL audio system, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity and Amazon Alexa support, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, 2-way lumbar support, a panoramic moonroof, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, hands free power liftgate and automatic high beams.
