Toyota RAV4 SUV Caught Testing In India; Launch Soon?

We informed you earlier that Toyota is planning to introduce some of its global SUVs in India. The new models will be brought to our market as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) under the Government’s offer of importing 2,500 cars without local homologation process. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is also expected to be launched in our market as a CBU import.

The Toyota RAV4 hybrid has been caught testing in India, which suggests that launch could take place soon. The spotted model features a ‘Hybrid’ badge above the front wheel arch. The fifth generation RAV4 is based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, which also underpins the Prius and the Camry.

In terms of proportions, the new Toyota RAV4 SUV is 4,600mm long, 1,85mm wide and 1,685mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,690mm. Likely to be launched by mid-2021, the new model is expected to be priced over 50-60 lakh. The SUV is expected to be equipped with a 218bhp version of the 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. There is a motor/generator mounted on the rear axle, which allows the hybrid powertrain to drive power to all-4 wheels. It offers up to 80% of the torque to the rear wheels.

The new Toyota RAV4 is equipped with several advanced features such as Entune 3.0 multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa support, a new JBL audio system with 11 speakers, 5 USB ports, electric parking brake, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory and 2-way lumbar support, a panoramic moonroof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, hands free power liftgate, etc.

The new Toyota RAV4 is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense suite that includes automatic high beams, lane departure alert with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, road sign assist and trailer sway control.
