Japanese automaker, Toyota has launched the 2021 Raize compact SUV in the Indonesian market. The company has introduced the new Raize in GR Sport Trim as well. The Raize GR Trim comes with sporty and rugged design elements.
For people not in the know, the Toyota Raize is based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, which also underpins the Daihatsu Rocky. This is basically the low-cost version of the TNGA platform.
The Toyota Raize GR Sport is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that also powers the Rocky. This engine is capable of producing 97bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 140Nm between 2,400rpm and 4,000rpm. The engine is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Suspension system comprises of MacPherson Strut at the front and Torsion Beam at the rear. The SUV gets front disc brake and drum-type rear brake. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 205/60 section tyres.
In terms of proportions, the Raize GR Sport trim is 4,030mm in length, 1,710mm in width and 1,635mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,525mm. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 200mm.
For safety and security, the SUV gets six airbags, hill start assist and has Toyota Safety Sense which includes features like lane departure assist with steering control, autonomous emergency braking, pedal misoperation control, adaptive cruise control and front departure alert.
In terms of features, the Raize gets automatic AC, Smart entry with push start button, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch digital instrument console, power mode switch, leather steering, automatic headlamps, paddle shifters, front soft pad armrest, and fabric & leather combi seats.
The exterior features include dual-tone roof, LED DRL & sequential turn lamp, auto retractable mirror, 17-inch black alloy wheels, LED rear combi lamps, aero kit (new front and rear bumper along with side skirt), chrome door handles, GR badging, etc.
In India, Toyota in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki is developing an all-new mid-sized SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new SUV is rumoured to be based on the DNGA platform, which underpins the Raize.
