Toyota Raize Compact SUV Gets New 1.2L Petrol Engine In Indonesia

Toyota had launched the Raize compact SUV in the Indonesian market earlier this year. The SUV was introduced in a single petrol engine option. It is equipped with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Daihatsu Rocky and the Perodua Ativa in Malaysia. This engine is also available in the Japanese-spec Rocky and the Toyota Raize.

Toyota currently commands over 31% of Indonesian market, and Raize played an important role in the brand’s significant rise. At the time of the launch, Toyota aims to sell 2,000 units per month. However, the company has posted a total sales of 6,179 units till June 14 that is significantly higher than the target.

In order to further improve sales, Toyota has introduced a new 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the Raize line-up. This engine is less powerful than the 1.0L turbo petrol. The 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated WA-VE Dual VVT-i DOHC engine churns out a maximum power output of 88PS at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 4,500rpm.

The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine churns out 99PS of power and 140Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the new 1.2L engine comes with a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The Toyota Raize 1.2L MT is available at a starting price of 210 million IDR (approx INR 10.75 lakh).

The new Toyota Raize compact SUV measures 3,995mm in length, 1695mm in width and 1620mm in height, which are exactly similar to the Daihatsu Rocky SUV. The SUV rides on large 17-inch wheels. It comes with 369-litres of boot space, which can be further increased by folding the rear seats.

In India, Toyota won’t be introducing the Raize compact SUV. However, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki JV is working on a new mid-sized SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. This SUV is reportedly to be based on the Toyota’s DNGA platform that underpins the Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky.
