Toyota Might Bring Raize SUV Platform in India

Toyota has launched the much-awaited Raize sub-4 meter SUV in the Japanese market. The new compact SUV is based on the Toyota’s flexible DNGA platform, which is developed for products aiming at emerging markets. This platform is basically a low-cost version of the advanced TNGA modular architecture, which underpins the C-HR, Prius and RAV4.

What’s interesting is that Toyota is likely to introduce this platform in the Indian market. A new media report claims that the new platform will be used by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota to develop a new compact SUV. This compact SUV will measure above 4 meter in length and will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.

This is contrary to previous reports that Maruti Suzuki will use the global C platform to develop the new SUV. This platform currently underpins the Vitara Brezza and the global Suzuki Vitara. We believe that the new platform could be used for a wide range of products for India as well as South Asean markets.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-generation Vitara Brezza around 2022-23. The next-gen Brezza and the Toyota’s derivative of the sub-4 meter SUV could be based on the DNGA platform. The new models are likely to be produced at the Toyota’s Bidadi plant, which will also be used to develop Vitara Brezza.

Suzuki Vitara Concept

As per the reports, the new Maruti SUV will also have a Toyota derivative. Both the models will have different styling and will come with uniquely styled interiors. There is no information about the engine options for the SUV, but Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid technology could power the SUV. Previous reports claim that the Indo-Japanese brand is also developing a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine to power the new SUV.
