Toyota To Launch India’s Safest & Most Fuel Efficient Small Car

Toyota and Daihatsu to develop India’s most fuel efficient, safest and value-for-money small car for Indian buyers; to challenge Maruti & Hyundai.

We informed you earlier that Toyota will bring its low-cost Daihatsu brand in the Indian car market. If media reports are to be believed, the Japanese automaker is planning to develop an all-new small car for the Indian market. Report further suggests that the small car will be India’s safest and the most fuel-efficient and value-for-money for Indian car buyers. With this car, Toyota will take on Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Toyota had launched the Etios series to mark strong presence in the competitive budget segment, but failed to mark its presence in this segment. With Daihatsu, the company aims to mark major inroads in the small car space. Toyota aims to target A and B segment car segments in India.

Speaking to ET Auto, Akito Tachiban, MD of Toyota Kirloskar said, “The most favourable story for us is that cars developed by Daihatsu will be made for the local market and at an affordable price. According to the report, Tachibana has asked the development team to develop the car with high safety and pure hybrid solution. Adding to it, Toyota is also considering a compact MPV and SUV for India. However, the new models will only come after BS-VI regulations implemented by April 2020.

The Japanese automaker is also planning to introduce small hybrid vehicles in the coming future. The company will launch the locally developed Corolla hybrid in the country in 2017 or 2018. Adding to it, Toyota will also launch a mid-sized sedan to rival the Honda City and the new Hyundai Verna.
