The much-anticipated Toyota Innova Hycross has finally made its global debut in the Indonesian market. The new MUV will also make its Indian debut on November 25. In fact, some dealerships have already started accepting bookings for the new Innova Hycross for a token amount of up to Rs 50,000. While it’s not official, the new Innova Hycross is expected to be sold alongside the Innova Hycross. So, it’s time to put the new Innova Hycross against the ongoing Innova Crysta to see how it differs from its previous version.
Design and Dimensions
Innova Crysta | Innova Hycross | |
Length | 4,735mm | 4,755mm |
Width | 1,830mm | 1,850mm |
Height | 1,795mm | 1,795mm |

Ground Clearance | 178mm | 185mm |
Platform | IMV ladder-on-frame | TNGA monocoque |
Seating Configurations | 7 and 8-seater | 6, 7 and 8-seater |
The Innova Hycross is 20mm longer and broader than the ongoing Toyota Innova Crysta. Its height, however, remains the same, but the wheelbase has extended by 100mm, which should result in better cabin space. The most important thing is to note that the new Innova Hycross uses Toyota’s TNGA monocoque chassis, which should provide better handling and ride quality than the Innova Crysta’s ladder-on-frame chassis.
Design-wise, the new Innova Hycross has a bold appearance and sports SUV-like stance, versus the Innova Crysta, which is typically an MPV with a streamlined silhouette.

- While the Toyota Innova Crysta comes with both diesel and petrol powertrains, its new-gen model only gets the petrol mill. It can also be had with Toyota’s self-charging strong hybrid system.
- The Innova Crysta can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Innova Hycross only gets CVT automatic transmission in the Indonesian market. However, its Indian-spec version could get the option of a manual transmission with a non-hybrid powertrain.
- Despite being a smaller displacement unit, the Innova Hycross’ petrol engine is more powerful and torquier than the Crysta’s 2.7-litre unit.
- Crysta has a ladder-frame RWD configuration, while Hycross has a monocoque FWD setup.
- The Hybrid version of the 2023 Toyota Innova should deliver a claimed fuel efficiency of between 20 – 23 kmpl. However, the official figures are yet to be announced.
Note: Bookings for the Toyota Innova Crysta diesel are currently on hold due to high demand.
