Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the upcoming mid-size SUV from the Japanese automaker, has started arriving at showrooms ahead of its market launch. While its official launch date is yet to be announced, its reported to see a release in late August 2022. Its offline and online bookings have already been commenced across the country.
In the mid-size SUV space, the new Toyota SUV will take directly on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming Maruti Vitara. One must note that the Vitara and Hyryder will share their platform, engines, features and design elements. Though, both SUVs will look different.
The new Toyota Hyryder SUV will be offered with two powertrain options – 1.5L petrol with Suzuki’s mild hybrid tech and a 1.5L with Toyota’s strong hybrid system. The latter has a 177.6V lithium-ion battery offering an electric range of only 25km.
The carmaker says that its hybrid setup can cover 40% of the total distance and 60% time in pure EV mode. It’s mild hybrid powertrain comes with ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) system and it delivers power worth 103bhp and 137Nm of torque. The strong hybrid version is good for 115bhp. The Hyryder will be the first vehicle in its category to offer AWD system.
In terms of features, the range-topping trim of the SUV has been equipped with a full digital instrument cluster, a 360 degree camera, connected car tech, Heads-Up Display, wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, voice assist with Google and Siri compatibility, cooled seats and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Toyota has packed the Hyryder SUV with advanced safety fitments such as electronic stability program, tyre pressure monitoring system, 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all rear passengers, hill hold assist, hill descent control and all-wheel disc brakes. The AWD variants have drive modes. The SUV model lineup will be spread across four trims – E, S, G and V.
