Toyota HyRyder SUV Front Fascia Leaked Before Official Debut

We informed you earlier that the much-awaited Toyota Hyryder SUV will make its global debut in India on July 1, 2022. Ahead of the official reveal, the front fascia of the upcoming SUV has been leaked online. The SUV was caught during its official TV Commercial Shoot.

What’s interesting is that the new SUV will be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. For people not in the know, Toyota and Suzuki are jointly developing two new SUVs – codenamed Toyota D22 and Maruti YFG – for the Indian market. Both models share the platform, production line and components. The Toyota Hyryder will be the third product to be sold under the Suzuki-Toyota partnership in India. Toyota is currently selling the Glanza (rebadged Baleno) and Urban Cruiser (rebadged Brezza).

The new SUVs will look completely different from each other, carrying their own unique styling. Suzuki and Toyota will follow Hyundai and Kia strategy, which sells Creta and Seltos using the same parts and engines but with different design and interiors.

The Hyryder spy shot was originally posted on the instagram story, which was later shared via Team-BHP member Bandhav. The SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads; however, this is the first time the SUV has been spotted in a fully undisguised form. The spotted model is the top of the line variant, featuring dual-tone paint scheme – red colour with black roof.

Toyota will be using the Urban Cruiser prefix to name the new model. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the new model will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. As a reminder, Toyota is currently selling the re-badged Brezza – the Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter SUV.

The front fascia of the new Toyota HyRyder has a signature Toyota grille and split headlamp setup. The sharp LED DRLs are placed on top, while the main headlights are placed lower and are wrapped in black enclosure. There is a thick chrome strip that connects DRLs and a Toyota logo in the centre.

The bumper features a massive air-dam with black mesh pattern. Also visible is the silver finished air-dam. The SUV gets sculpted bonnet with sharp creases all around the body. Side and rear profile has not leaked yet.

The spy images reveal that the design of the Maruti YFG mid-sized SUV will look slightly different from the Toyota HyRyder. The Maruti’s version will have A-Cross inspired front design with split headlamps and LED DRLs. The front grille will also share similarities with the new Baleno and the Ertiga.

Toyota HyRyder Specs & Details

The new HyRyder and the Marutis YFG will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-B or DNGA platform, which underpins a wide range of Toyota cars in global market. The new models will be produced at Toyota’s Plant 2 in Bidadi, Karnataka. It is reported that the bulk of the suppliers are from Maruti Suzuki’s set of component makers. On the flip side, Toyota will supply critical systems for the development of new models.

The SUV’s cabin will have similarities with the new Corolla Cross. It will have a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system in the centre of the layered dashboard. In terms of the features, the SUV gets wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, automatic AC, powered driver’s seat. The SUV is also likely to get ADAS with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring & a collision warning system.

Previous media reports claim that the new Toyota HyRyder will come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild hybrid and strong hybrid system. The mild hybrid unit and strong hybrid unit will offer 103PS and 116PS respectively. While the mild hybrid system will get manual and automatic gearbox, the strong hybrid unit will come with e-CVT. The SUV will be the only vehicle in the category to offer AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system. The strong hybrid setup will come with the self charging and FWD (front-wheel drive) system.
