The Toyota Hilux will be the first lifestyle pickup truck from the Japanese automaker in the country. Official bookings of the model have already been commenced at a token sum of Rs 1 lakh, while its deliveries will begin in March 2022. Prices of the Hilux are slated to be announced on 20th January. We expect it to cost around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Here, it will be positioned against the Isuzu D-Max that’s current priced between Rs 18.05 lakh – Rs 25.06 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
For power, the new Toyota pickup truck will use the 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine that’s good enough for 204bhp and 420Nm. It can be had either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The same powertrain does duty in the Fortuner SUV. The pickup will come with the 4WD (four-wheel drive) system with electronic differential locks. It will offer multiple driving modes.
Buyers will get five colour schemes to choose from, namely, Super White, Metallic Silver, Metallic Grey, Pearl White and Emerald Red. The Hilux underpins IMV-2 (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform borrowed from the Fortuner. Its overall length, width and height stand at 5,325mm, 1855mm and 1865mm respectively. Some of its features are likely to be sourced from the Fortuner such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, steering wheel, dashboard design and seats. It will also get a 6-speaker audio system, a 4.2-inch TFT display, cruise control, power adjustable driver’s seat, smart key with push-button, engine start/stop, power adjustable driver’s seat and more. Upfront, the Toyota Hilux carries a large hexagonal grille, sweptback LED headlamps and sporty bumper.
