The upcoming Toyota Fortuner 2021 comes with new design highlights, feature-loaded cabin and more powerful diesel engine.
Japanese automaker, Toyota has launched the new Fortuner facelift and the Hilux facelift in Thailand. The new Fortuner will be launched in Australia in August 2020. The Fortuner 2021 has received significant design changes and upgraded interior along with more powerful diesel engine. New Design Elements
The updated Toyota Fortuner facelift receives significant design changes, though, majority of the changes are made to the front profile. It comes with an all-new front face with a larger mesh-pattern grille, revised headlamps, new fog lamp enclosure, and reshaped front bumper with new silver skid plate.
LED lighting system
The new Toyota Fortuner 2021 comes equipped with newly designed and slimmer LED headlamps and tail-lamps. It features redesigned LED headlights that incorporates LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and slimmer-looking LED tail-lights.
New Legender Variant
In place of the TRD SPORTIVO, Toyota has introduced a new top-spec ‘Legender’ variant with a sportier profile. It is equipped with a new split grille and new bumper that has sequential LED turn indicators, and dual LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs. It gets gloss black finish, which adds to its sporty character. This top-spec model also gets a dual-tone paint scheme and glossy black treatment to the rear profile as well.
18-and 20-inch alloys
While the regular variant comes fitted with 18-inch alloys, the top-spec Fortuner Legender rides on newly designed 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Larger touchscreen infotainment
The regular Fortuner facelift now fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which replaces the 7-inch unit in the current model. This system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The legender variant also gets a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
Toyota Safety Sense Features
The new model also gets Toyota safety sense, which includes collision and automatic brakes pre-collision system, lane departure warning system with automatic steering wheel delay, lane keeping assist and variable automatic speed control system, and dynamic radar cruise control.
Feature-loaded cabin
Besides new touchscreen unit, the new Toyota Fortuner 2021 gets updated instrument console, 8-way electrically adjustable driver and co-driver’s seats, wireless smartphone charging, LED ambient lighting, a 9-speed JBL audio system and a 360 degree camera. The Legender variant also gets 7 airbags and several safety features.
Variable Flow Control
The SUV also gets Toyota’s Variable Flow Control system, which reduces power steering fluid output and increases the steering torque when driving at high speed, improving handling stability and offers more sporty and engaging driving experience.
More Powerful 2.8L turbo-diesel engine
The new Toyota Fortuner 2021 also gets an updated 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is now capable of producing 201bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. This is 27bhp and 50Nm higher than the previous model. India-spec model is powered by a BSVI compliant 2.8L turbo-diesel engine producing 174bhp and 450Nm of torque (420Nm with Manual Gearbox). Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
India Launch Timeline
The company hasn’t revealed anything about the launch of the Fortuner facelift in India. However, media reports claim that the SUV could be launched by the end of this year or early next year.
