Toyota Corolla Altis Hybrid To Use Suzuki’s 1.5L Petrol Engine – Report

Maruti Suzuki Corolla Based Sedan

The new Corolla Altis hybrid version is reported to go on sale sometime in 2020.

Maruti Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine is all set to debut on the 2018 Ciaz facelift in August, 2018. The new gasoline powertrain has been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation (Japan), and its production takes place in India. The carmaker plans to introduce the same petrol motor on its popular models including the Baleno hatchback, Ertiga MPV and Vitara Brezza compact SUV.

For the first time, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will introduce the Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) with the petrol powertrain. This new motor will come as a replacement to the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine. According to a latest report, Maruti Suzuki’s new 1.5L petrol unit with SHVS will also be used in the Toyota Corolla Altis Hybrid at a later stage. To be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s outlets, the new Corolla Altis hybrid version is expected to go on sale sometime in 2020.

Just so you know, Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation entered a new partnership for mutual supply of hybrid and other vehicles in the Indian market. While Toyota will supply the Corolla sedan to Suzuki, Suzuki will supply the Vitara Brezza and Baleno to Toyota. Details such as vehicles number and specifications and supply prices will be determined at a later stage. The re-badged models will be retailed through respective dealerships of the carmakers.

Talking about Suzuki’s new petrol engine, the 1.5L petrol unit is good enough for 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Combined with Maruti Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid system, this motor will surely be frugal in nature. Suzuki’s SHVS technology includes smart features such as brake energy regeneration, idle start-stop and torque assist systems.
