Toyota Corolla Cross SUV To Be Unveiled On July 9 – Report

We reported earlier that the much-awaited Toyota Corolla Cross will make Asian debut in July 2020. A new media report claims that the new SUV will be launched in Thailand on July 9, 2020. The new Corolla Cross will rival the likes of the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Subaru XV and the Jeep Compass.

The report further claims that the upcoming Corolla Cross will come in 4 variants – 1.8 Sport, 1.8 Hybrid Smart, 1.8 Hybrid Premium and 1.8 Hybrid Premium Safety. In terms of proportions, the upcoming mid-sized SUV is 4,460mm long, 1,825mm wide and 1,620mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,640mm. The SUV is reportedly to have a ground clearance of 161mm.

The Toyota Corolla Cross will come with 2 engine options – 1.8L petrol and a 1.8L petrol hybrid. The gasoline engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 140bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 175Nm at 4,000rpm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via CVT automatic.

The petrol engine in the hybrid unit produces 98bhpp and 142Nm of torque at 3,600rpm. This engine works with permanent magnet synchronous motor with 600 volts of maximum output of 72bhp and 163Nm of torque. Paired to an automatic E-CVT, the hybrid engine offers a combined power output of 122bhp.

The Toyota Corolla Cross sits below the RAV4 SUV in the brand’s global line-up. It targets the growing markets including Thailand, Indonesia and Brazil. The SUV is designed and developed on the TNGA-C platform, which also underpins the new Corolla Altis and the C-HR. On the flip-side, the RAV4 is based on the expensive TNGA-K platform that also underpins the Camry sedan.

The Toyota Corolla Cross styling will be inspired by the RAV4. Some of the design highlights will include trapezoidal-shaped front grille, LED running lights in horizontal layout, RAV4-like rear profile and black plastic cladding all around the SUV. The SUV will be equipped with features such as automatic AC, reverse camera, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, blind spot sensor, cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and 360 degree camera. The top-spec model will ride on 18-inch alloys.
