Toyota Corolla Cross Rendered; Coming To India?

Toyota Corolla Cross Launch

Toyota is working on an all-new C-SUV that was recently spotted testing for the first time. Called the Toyota Corolla Cross (codenamed 740B), the SUV will be based on the modular TNGA platform that also underpins the new-generation Corolla sedan. In the company’s global lineup, it will sit between the recently-unveiled Yaris Cross and RAV4 SUVs. The new Toyota SUV is likely to make its world debut by the end of this year or early next year.

While there are months to go, a latest digital rendering gives us a fair idea what it might look like. The front fascia of the Toyota Corolla Cross looks exactly similar to the new-gen Corolla sedan. It carries the slim, J-shaped bi-beam LED headlamps wrapped into the front fenders and a wider honeycomb mesh black grille. It also features LED DRLs, black bumper and surround and body-coloured ORVMs.

Toyota Corolla Cross Specs

The new SUV sits higher than the new Corolla sedan. While the front end shares resemblance to the Corolla sedan, the side profile looks similar to the Toyota RAV4. Design bits such as silver roof rails, black cladding on pronounced wheel arches and all around the body, black rear bumper and exhaust pipes are borrowed from the RAV4 SUV.  The LED taillamps and stoplights seem inspired by the new Corolla sedan. The Toyota Corolla Cross is likely to be offered with two powertains – 1.8L petrol and 2.0L flex fuel – sourced from the global-spec Corolla sedan. More details of the SUV are likely to be revealed in near future.

In India, the Japanese carmaker is planning to bring in the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza based compact SUV in August, 2020. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser, the subcompact SUV will witness noticeable design changes along with the petrol-hybrid powertrain. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
