Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is considering its luxury brand Lexus for the Indian car market. Despite being the sluggish market, the sales of luxury cars have recorded a new high. Currently, the three big Germans- BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz dominating the luxury car segment, while, Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo is also working on improving their sales in the market. Going by this, we believe that Toyota could soon bring its luxury brand- Lexus in the country.
Speaking to ET, Naomi Ishii, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, said, “We see a lot of opportunity in India now. Given that the three German brands are doing well, I feel we need Lexus here.”
USA is the biggest market for the Lexus cars which all comes powered by petrol. It is quite early to comment which cars will come first in the country but the growing demand for SUVs could lead Lexus to launch SUVs first in India. The company is currently selling three SUVs- RX, GX and LX and 4 sedans- IS, ES, GS and LS.
