The 14th edition of Asia’s largest auto show – Delhi Auto Expo 2018 – will witness unveilings and launches of several new exciting cars. Toyota had showcased the new generation Innova Crysta and Prius hybrid at the last year’s show. Next year, the Japanese automaker is planning to unveil a range of exciting new cars including an all-new SUV, mid-sized sedan and a premium hatchback. The Japanese carmaker will finally enter into the growing SUV segment with its global SUV – Toyota CHR. Already on sale in the select international markets, the premium SUV is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2018 or early 2019. In order to gauge public response, Toyota is planning to showcase this SUV at the biennial event scheduled to commence in February, 2018. Set to take on the likes of Honda HRV, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson, the CHR will be one of the most important upcoming Toyota cars at Auto Expo 2018.
Toyota C-HR, which stands for Coupe High-Rider, was first showcased as concept model at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It is developed on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) that also underpins the new Prius sedan. Furthermore, the CHR will be the first Toyota model based on TNGA platform to be locally manufactured in India. The next model to join our list of upcoming new Toyota Cars at Auto Expo 2018 is the long-awaited Vios sedan. To be slotted between the Etios and Corolla Altis, the sedan is expected to be launched in India in early 2018. Media reports suggest that India-spec model will be developed on the Etios platform. The vehicle will rival the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
The Japanese automaker will launch the new generation Vios sedan in India, which has already been spotted testing in the Indonesian market. The new model will have more upmarket and feature loaded cabin. In India, the sedan will come with two engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel. Toyota had unveiled the new generation Camry sedan at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. Based on the TNGA platform, the new model will also make its way to India. This new model shows the company’s new design and engineering approaches. Set to be Toyota’s flagship sedan in India, the new generation Camry will be among the most important upcoming Toyota cars at Auto Expo 2018. Talking about design highlights, the sedan gets horizontal fog lamps, a two-piece grille with flowing thin and thick treatments, LED taillights inspired from the new Prius, and a new sharp LED headlamps with DRLs.
Toyota has reduced the overall height by an inch to improve is driveability. It measures 4.899.34mm in length, 1838.96mm in width and 1,445.26mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,824.48mm. Next in our list of upcoming new Toyota Cars At Auto Expo 2018 is the Yaris premium hatchback. The company will launch the next generation model in the country, which will be based on the TNGA platform. However, India-spec model could be developed on the Etios platform to price it competitively. It is expected that the hatchback will share design cues from the new Corolla Altis.
The Yaris premium hatchback will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 86bhp of power. The company could also use the new 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine that is good for 108bhp and 140Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. The MPV has a capacity to accommodate 8 adults comfortably.
