Toyota RAV4 Front

Japanese automaker, Toyota has recently unveiled the new Yaris Cross compact SUV for the International markets. The company is also working on an all-new C-SUV, which will be based on the new Corolla’s TNGA modular platform. Codenamed 740B, the new SUV will be launched in Brazil, Australia, USA and some Asian markets. The SUV has been spotted testing for the first time in Thailand.

In terms of proportions, the upcoming Toyota C-SUV will be positioned right between the C-HR crossover and the RAV4 SUV. In Brazil, the SUV will receive the 2.0-litre flex and 1.8-litre hybrid engines. The spotted model was fully covered in cloth, but it is clearly visible that the upcoming C-SUV is bigger and more traditional than the C-HR, and smaller than the RAV4. Some of the design highlights from the side and rear profile looks similar to the RAV4. It gets horizontal and narrow headlights that invade the trunk lid. Some of the design also shared with the newly unveiled Yaris Cross.

There are no front images of the SUV available on the Internet. However, it is expected that the front design will have some resemblance with the Yaris Cross and the RAV4. It will have imposing front fascia with sculpted bonnet. If media reports are to be believed, the new model could use the “Cross” surname. It is likely to be called the Toyota Corolla Cross in some markets.

It will be developed on the TNGA platform, which also underpins the Corolla, RAV4 and the C-HR. The Corolla Cross is expected to be launched globally in the first half of 2021. The production of the SUV will start in Brazil at the Sorocaba (SP) plant. The SUV will directly rival the next-gen Honda HR-V, which is scheduled to be launched in 2021. The new model will be based on the all-new platform and will be bigger than the current model.
