Electric range is one of the most important aspects to consider while buying an EV. How far an electric vehicle can go? Well, it depends on several factors including battery capacity and size, power output of the electric motors and vehicle weight. Here, we have compiled a list of long-range EVs, which are currently on sale in India.

Launched in July 2021, the Audi e-tron is the brand’s first electric car in the Indian market. It’s available in e-tron 50, e-tron 55 and e-tron Sportback variants, which are priced at Rs 99.99 lakh, Rs 1.16 crore and Rs 1.18 crore respectively (all, ex-showroom). The e-tron 50 comes with 71kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 379km along with 313bhp of power and 408Nm of torque. The e-tron 55 and e-tron Sportback are packed with 91kWh battery pack and deliver a range of 484km. It pushes out a peak power of 408bhp with 664Nm of torque. Audi’s electric SUV takes 8.5 hours to get charged up to 80% via AC power socket and 30 minutes via DC fast charger.

Jaguar I-Pace is India’s second top EV to deliver longest range of 470km on a single charge. Its powertrain system includes a 90kWh lithium-ion battery and two synchronous permanent magnet electric motors. Its power and torque outputs stand at 400bhp and 696Nm respectively. The I-Pace is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 4.8 seconds and attain a top speed of 200kmph. Its battery can be charged up to 80% in 45 minutes via a 100kW fast charger and in around 10 hours via 7kW AC wall box. The Jaguar I-Pace is currently available in S, SE and HSE variants that cost Rs 1.066 crore, 1.08 crore and 1.12 crore respectively (all, ex-showroom).

Hyundai Kona is the first electric model from the South Korean carmaker in the country. Launched in 2019, the electric SUV is currently offered in two variants – Premium and Premium Dual-tone – which are priced at Rs 23.79 lakh and Rs 23.97 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom. Powering the Kona EV is a 39.3kWh battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 136bhp and 395Nm. It accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 9.7 seconds and promises an ARAI-certified range of 452km on a full charge. The lithium-ion battery pack can be charged 100% in less than 57 minutes via 50kW DC fast charger and 6 hours 10 minutes via a standard AC power source.

MG ZS EV – 419km

At present, the MG ZS EV model lineup comes in Excite and Exclusive variants that cost Rs 20.99 lakh and Rs 24.58 lakh respectively. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom. The electric SUV that received a mid-life update earlier this year, comes with 44.5kWh battery pack and delivers a range of 419km on a single charge. It can achieve 100kmph from standstill in 8.5 seconds. The EV returns a claimed power of 143bhp and 353Nm of torque. One can charge its battery up to 80% in 50 minutes by using a DC fast charger and in 6 to 8 hours by using an AC charger.

Mercedes-Benz EQC – 414km

Mercedes-Benz brought the EQC electric luxury car in October last year. Priced at Rs 99.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the EV provides a claimed range between 370km – 414km on a full charge. It features two asynchronous motors with a 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering a combined power of 408bhp and 765Nm of torque. With a 7.5kW wall-box charger and a 50kW DC fast charger, it can be charged in 10 hours and 90 minutes respectively. The Mercedes-Benz EQC can sprint 0 to 100kmphh in 5.1 seconds and attain a maximum speed of 180kmph.

Tata Nexon EV is India’s top-selling electric car, thanks to its efficient powertrain and aggressive pricing. The model lineup is spread across 5 variants including XM (Rs 13.99 lakh), XZ+ (Rs 15.65 lakh), XZ+ Dark Edition (Rs 15.99 lakh), XZ+ LUX (Rs 16.65 lakh) and XZ+ LUX Dark Edition (Rs 16.85 lakh). Powering the compact electric SIV is a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery with 129bhp, electric motor. Boosted with Tata’s Ziptron electric technology, the EV offers a claimed range of 312km. Its charging time stands at 8.5 hours via AC charger and 60 minutes (90%) via DC fast charger (80%).

Tata Tigor EV – 306km

The updated Tata Tigor EV recently went on sale in the country. The 2021 model year comes in XE, XM, XZ+ and XZ+ dual-tone variants, which are priced at Rs 11.99 lakh, Rs 12.49 lakh, Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 13.14 lakh respectively (all, ex-showroom). It has been benefited with Tata’s advanced Ziptron tech that consists of a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor making 75bhp and 170Nm. It can do 0 to 60kmph in 5.7 seconds. The electric sedan has a 26kWh lithium-ion battery with a IP67 rated electric motor. The updated model delivers a range of 306km, which is significantly higher than the old one. It can be fast charged (up to 80%) in 60 minutes.
