Top 6 New SUV Launches That Pushed To 2021

Indian automobile industry has suffered a lot due to the nationwide lockdown and ongoing pandemic. Car manufacturers have been delayed several new product launches. Here, we have listed the top 6 SUVs that have been pushed to be launched in 2021.

1. Tata Gravitas

Tata Gravitas 6/7-seater SUV was planned for this year’s Diwali season. However, the latest reports claim that its launch has been postponed to next year due to supply chain constraints and market uncertainty. The new Tata SUV will be designed on the Omega Arc platform that also underpins the Harrier. Powering the model will be the tried and tested 2.0L turbo diesel engine making 170bhp against 350Nm of torque. There will be two gearboxes on offer including a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The overall length, width and height of the Gravitas will stand at 4661mm, 1894mm and 1786mm respectively.

2. Nissan Magnite

Nissan Magnite will mark the Japanese carmaker entry in the subcompact SUV space in India. The model, which was earlier slated to hit roads 2020 festive season, is now reported to arrive early 2021. If reports are to be believed, it might see a release in the very first month of the next year. The Magnite will be based on the CMF A+ platform and come with 1.0L naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engine options. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a CVT automatic and an AMT unit. Official details of the compact SUV are yet to be revealed. Though, it’s reported to be equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system, Nissan Connect connected car technology, a flat bottom steering and many more goodies.

3. Tata HBX

Tata’s upcoming HBX concept based mini SUV is now reported to see a release in the first half of 2021. Based on the Altroz’s Alfa platform, the HBX will take head-to-head against the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.  It will carry Tata’s new Impact 2.0 design language and feature upright stance. The carmaker will make some practical changes to its production-ready model including the removal of the off-road tyres. Under the hood, the new Tata micro SUV is likely to employ a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that’s good enough for 85bhp and 110Nm. The model lineup might also be offered with a new 1.2L petrol motor pushing out power close to 100bhp. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.

4. Citroen C5 Aircross

PSA Group was ready to mark its entry in India with the Citroen brand in the second half of 2020. Now, the French carmaker is planning to launch the first Citroen SUV in the first quarter of 2021. Called the Citroen C5 Aircross, the SUV will come to India via CKD route in an estimated price range of Rs 25 lakh – Rs 30 lakh. Here, it could be offered with both petrol (1.2L turbo) and diesel (2.0L turbo) engine options. An 8-speed automatic gearbox will be standard across the lineup. The C5 Aircross SUV will be packed with several goodies including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument, automatic climate control with high yield active carbon filter, a 360 degree camera, park assist and more.

5. Jeep Compass 7-Seater SUV

The American carmaker has confirmed three Jeep SUVs for the Indian market including a premium 7-seater model. Codenamed Jeep Low-D, the Jeep Grand Compass will share its platform and several components with the Compass SUV. Reports suggest that the SUV might be offered with a 2.0L MJD turbo diesel engine making a top power of 173bhp against 350Nm of torque. For performing transmission duties, there will be a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic unit. The model lineup will be offered with both RWD and AWD systems. Compared to the standard Compass, the 7-seater Grand Compass will sit on 100mm longer wheel base.

6. New-Gen Mahindra XUV500

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to give a generation change to its highly popular SUVs including Thar, Scorpio and XUV500. The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 is reported to launch in Q and Q4 of this fiscal year. The SUV will be based on an all-new platform and witness significant changes inside and out. Design and styling of the new XUV500 might be inspired by the Funster concept that broke cover at this year’s Auto Expo. Engine setup of the SUV will include an all-new 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol and a new 2.2L diesel. It can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
