Top 5 Upcoming Hyundai Creta Rivals – Confirmed List

The mid-size SUV segment is growing at a fast pace in India and the latest entrant Skoda Kushaq further heated up the competition. Though, the premium compact SUV space is still ruled by Hyundai Creta. In the next couple of years, there will be more new model to challenge its dominance. Here’s a brief of the top 5 upcoming Hyundai Creta rivals.

1. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen Taigun is ready to hit roads in the month of September. Its official bookings have already been commenced and the model is under production at the carmaker’s Chakan plant in Pune. Based on the MQB AO IN platform, the SUV come with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder and 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engines making power worth 113bhp with 175Nm and 148bhp with 250Nm respectively. It can be had with three gearboxes – 6-speed manual (1.0L only), 6-speed automatic (1.0L only) and 7-speed DSG (1.5L only). While the Taigun shares its several design elements and components with the Kushaq, it looks different and have more features on-board.

MG Astor will surely be a strong contender in the mid-size SUV segment that’s slated to launch in September 2021. The British carmaker has confirmed that the SUV will be packed with several segment-first features including the personal AI assistant and level II autonomous driving functions. The list of features will also include the new Smart iHub connected car tech, Jio-powered internet features, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, brown leather on dashboard and more. The Astor is reported to be offered with 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.3L turbo petrol engines making 120bhp with 150Nm and 163bhp with 230Nm respectively.

3. Honda Elevate

The Japanese carmaker recently confirmed a new SUV that will be designed especially for the Indian market. It’s likely to be a mid-size SUV to challenge Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The production-ready model is likely to be named Honda Elevate as the company recently trademarked the nameplate. As of now, there is no official product information. Though, the new Honda SUV is reported to share its platform and engines with the Honda City sedan. That means, it might be offered with the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options. In fact, the CVT automatic gearbox and suspension setup might also be borrowed from the City. Rumour has it that the Elevate could be made available in 5 and 7-seats layouts.

4. New Mahindra XUV500

If reports are to be believed, Mahindra & Mahindra will re-introduce the new XUV500 as the Hyundai Creta rival in early 2024. It will be a 5-seater model and positioned above the XUV300 and below XUV700 in the company’s product lineup. The new Mahindra XUV500 is likely to be based on the extended version of the XUV300’s platform. It could be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol version might use the new 1.5L turbo unit, the diesel model will come with 1.5L motor meeting the stricter BS6 II phase emission standards.

Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its SUV product portfolio in coming years. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has planned a range of new SUVs across different segments including the mid-size SUV space. Maruti Suzuki’s Hyundai Creta rival will be developed under Suzuki-Toyota joint venture and produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based facility in Karnataka. It’s likely to underpin Toyota’s DNGA platform and measure around 4.3 meters in length. Reports suggest that the SUV will arrive towards the end of 2022. Powering the new Maruti Creta rival could be a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. The carmaker might also use the 1.2L turbo petrol or 1.4L turbo petrol motors.
