MG Comet EV

MG Motor India is all set to launch the new Comet electric vehicle in the country in April 2023. This 2-door electric vehicle will be the country’s smallest car, measuring just 2.9 meters in length. It is even smaller than the Tata Nano. Expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new MG Comet EV will rival the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3. The MG Comet EV will share the battery pack options with the Wuling Air EV. The entry-level variant could get a 17.3kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 200kms. The high-end variant will have a 26.7kWh battery pack with a claimed range of around 300kms on a single charging.

If media reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is preparing to launch the electric version of the Punch micro SUV before the end of 2023. It will be based on the GEN 2 (SIGMA) platform, which is essentially a heavy modified version of the ALFA architecture. The platform will be optimized for electrification and will have a flat floor to accommodate a large battery pack. The mini SUV could be made available with two battery pack options – a 26kWh borrowed from the Tiago EV and a 30.2kWh sourced from the Nexon EV.

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the Curvv SUV Coupe with electric and ICE powertrains in 2024. It will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona EV and the Mahindra XUV400. It is based on the GEN 2 platform, which is heavily modified Tata’s ALFA platform. It is likely to get a larger battery pack with an estimated range of over 400ms. The EV will challenge the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona EV and the Mahindra XUV400.

Mahindra had revealed 5 electric SUV concepts based on the INGLO Born electric platform in 2022. These SUVs will be sold under the XUV and BE brands. The first product to be launched under the XUV electric brand will be the production version of the XUV.e8. Scheduled to be launched by December 2024, the new model will come with a battery pack ranging up to 80kWh. It can be had with AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The power figure of the electric SUV is likely to be between 230bhp – 350bhp.

BYD had showcased the Seal electric sedan at the 2023 Auto Expo. The electric sedan is likely to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023 and is estimated to cost around Rs 70 lakh. This Tesla Model 3 rival EV is based on the brand’s e-platform 3.0. It will be offered with two battery pack options – a 61.4kWh and an 82.5kWh. While the smaller capacity batter pack promises a range of 550km, the bigger battery delivers a range up to 700km on (CLTC – Chine light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle).
