Commanding a huge popularity in the segment, Jupiter is a good choice in the commuter segment. Recently, the scooter crossed 2.5 million sales milestone in the Indian market. The scooter received a mid-life updated in March 2017 with BSIV compliant engine and AHO (Auto Headlamp On) feature. The Sync Braking system, which was earlier restricted to the top-spec ZX trim, also made standard across line-up. For power, the scooter uses the 109.7cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine pushing out 7.88bhp against 8Nm of torque. Mileage figure of the TVS Jupiter stands at 62kmpl. The company is also working on the 125cc variant of the scooter, which is currently under its testing phase. The TVS Jupiter 110cc version is available in three variants – Standard, ZX and ZX Disc along with the Classic Edition.

Yamaha Fascino was introduced in single variant priced at Rs 56,315 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Currently, the scooter is available at Rs 54,593 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it slightly pricier than the Honda Activa 5G and TVS Jupiter. Though, it’s one of the most viable alternatives to the Honda Activa 5G. Based on the ‘Rich & Classy Modern Retro’ design, the new model was updated with a BSIV compliant, Auto Headlamp On feature and additional colour schemes. Aimed at the young buyers, the scooter is powered by the 113cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled SOHC engine with ‘Blue Core’ technology and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The motor makes 7bhp at 7,500rpm and 8.1Nm at 5,000rpm.

3. Suzuki Access 125

In April 2017, the Suzuki Access received a BSIV compliant engine and Auto Headlamp On feature. Suzuki also added a new Metallic Sonic Silver colour scheme to the line-up. The company recently also added 2018 Suzuki Access 125 Special Edition along with CBS (Combined Braking System) and a new Metallic Sonic Silver with Beige Coloured Leatherette seat. The CBS enables to operate both brakes only by left brake lever, maintaining a balance between front and rear brake forces. At the heart of the 2018 Suzuki Access is a 124cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled engine churning out a maximum power of 8.58bhp with 10.2Nm torque. The engine is quite frugal in nature and is claimed to deliver 64kmpl (ARAI rated). Just so you know, the scooter is available in three variants – Drum Brake, Disc Brake and Disc Brake with CBS.

Mahindra added a 125cc version to the Gusto line-up priced at Rs 50,920 (pre-GST price). While the 110cc version, which is powered by the 109.6cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, M-TEC engine with 8.0bhp and 9Nm torque, comes in three variants priced between Rs 49,930 to Rs 53,030 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mated to a CVT, the scooter is claimed to return 63kmpl of mileage (ARAI rated). As for the features, it comes with a height adjustable seat, guide lamp, find-me lamps, remote flip key, guide light, large tubeless tyres, and a quick storage compartment. It gets telescopic suspension with air springs.

Launched in 2015, the scooter is another alternative to the segment leader Activa. Power source for the scooter is an 110.9cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine making a top power of 8.31bhp against 8.30Nm torque. Mated to a CVT, the scooter is claimed to return an impressive mileage of 63.8kmpl. In terms of features, ,the scooter comes with telescopic front suspension, external fuel filling provision, integrated braking, mobile charging port and boot light and several other features.
