New SUVs At Auto Expo 2020

The Delhi Auto Expo, the world’s second biggest and Asia’s largest motor show, has welcomed several exciting product launches. Car manufacturers, too, didn’t missed the opportunity to put their best foot forward and showcased new concepts, electric vehicles and future mobility solutions. Here, we have compiled a list of all-new SUVs that broke cover at the Auto Expo 2020.

1. Kia Sonet

Kia Sonet subcompact SUV is the showstopper from the Korean carmaker at the Auto Expo 2020. With Hyundai Venue and Maruti Vitara Brezza in its sight, the Sonet will see a release in the second half of 2020. Design of the vehicle is quite imposing that will surely appeal its target buyers. The Sonet shares its underpinning with the Hyundai Venue. In fact, it’s likely to borrow powertrains from the Venue including a 1.2L petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel.

2. Kia Seltos X-Line

Alongside the all-new Sonet, Kia Motors India showcased the Kia Seltos X-Line Trail Attack concept at the biennial event. The rugged styling and sporty design bits make it a head turner. The Seltos X-Line concept features 2-inch lift kit, off-road spec tyres, roof rails, black cladding on the wheel arches and orange highlights on the bumper, alloys, side and rear sections. Under the hood, the Seltos X-Line houses a 175PS, 1.6L turbo petrol engine with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

3. MG Hector Plus

MG Hector Plus, the 6/7-seater version of the Hector SUV, made its public debut at the motor show. The vehicle is likely to go on sale in the second half of 2020. Visually, the Hector Plus looks slightly different than its 5-seater sibling. While the 6-seater version of the SUV gets two individual captain chairs for the second row, the 7-seater model comes with bench seats for the second and third rows. Powering the MG Hector Plus is likely to be the same BS6-compliant 1.5L turbo petrol, 2.0L turbo diesel and 1.5L petrol with a 48V mild hybrid motor.   

4. MG Gloster

MG Gloster will be the largest and most expensive SUV from the British carmaker in India. Slated to launch during 2020 festive season, the 7-seater SUV won’t have any direct rival in the country. Though, it will take on the multiple cars in different price range including Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. Here, it’s likely to be offered with a 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine generating 218bhp and 480Nm of torque.

5. New Force Gurkha

The new BS6 Force Gurkha made its debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The updated model meets the new pedestrian safety norms and crash test standards, thanks to its new chassis and bodyshell. The off-road SUV has received noticeable cosmetic and feature upgrades, thus making it more comfortable and safer. The 2020 Force Gurkha comes with same 2.6L diesel engine, albeit in the BS6-compliant form. Compared to the old motor, the new one is 5bhp more powerful.

6. Tata Gravitas

Tata Gravitas 7-seater SUV is one of the exciting product reveals at the Auto Expo 2020. Based on the Buzzard concept that broke cover at the last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Gravitas shares several design bits and components with the Harrier SUV. Though, it gets subtle cosmetic upgrades along with an extra row of seats and a few new features. The SUV will use the same 170PS, 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine that does duty in the new Tata Harrier. The carmaker has confirmed that the Tata Gravitas will be launched in the first half of 2020.

7. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen Taigun, the upcoming compact SUV from the German carmaker, was unveiled just a couple of days before the 2020 Auto Expo. The carmaker put it up for display at the biennial event as well. Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, the Taigun looks similar to the global-spec VW T-Cross. Though, it’s longer and offers more space for the rear seat occupants. In India, it will be offered with a 130bhp, 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine.

8. Skoda Karoq

Skoda Auto showcased a range of new models at this year’s Auto Expo alongside the price unveiling of the Octavia RS 245 performance sedan. The Skoda Karoq appears like a scaled-down version of the Kodiaq 7-seater SUV. In India, it will be made available with a 1.5L TSI turbo petrol engine delivering power worth 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. There will be no diesel engine and 4X4 drivetrain option. The Karoq will hit showrooms in April, 2020.

9. Volkswagen T-Roc

The German carmaker has also displayed the all-new Volkswagen T-Roc compact SUV. In fact, the official bookings for the vehicle have been commenced in the country. The T-Roc has been built on the VW Group’s MQB platform and sits below the Tiguan SUV in the company’s product lineup. In India, the SUV will be brought with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that’s good enough for 150bhp and 340Nm. There will be a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox on offer.

10. Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace

Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, which is essentially the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan, made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2020. Compared to its 5-seater sibling, the Tiguan AllSpace is 215mm longer and sits on 110mm longer wheelbase. Powering the 7-seater SUV will be a 2.0L turbo diesel engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Its power output stands at 190bhp. Official bookings for the VW Tiguan AllSpace have been commenced and its launch will happen by mid 2020.

11. Haval H9

Great Wall Motors has marked its India entry with the Haval sub-brand at the Auto Expo 2020. The Chinese carmaker showcased multiple electric SUV concepts and SUVs including the potential Toyota Fortuner rival – the Haval H9. It’s the largest SUV in the Haval’s product lineup. The H9 is bigger than the Fortuner, Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas. In China, the Haval H9 is offered with a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine hooked to an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. It pushes out a peak power of 218bhp and 324Nm of torque.
