SUVs are selling like hotcakes in the Indian market. However, there are several sub-sections within the segment such as sub-compact SUVs, compact SUVs, crossovers and mini SUVs. Vehicles with SUV stance and a high ground clearance are generalized as SUVs in India. Attributes like spacious cabin, sporty styling and commanding road presence make them hot choice among buyers. This is the reason why SUVs grab major chunk of the sales every month. Here’re May 2018’s top 10 selling SUVs in above four-metre category.
Hyundai Creta that recently received a mid-life update, was the highest-selling SUV in the above 4-metre category in May 2018. Within 10 days of arrival, the SUV registered over 14,366 bookings and 70,000 enquiries. Hyundai India managed to sell 11004 units of the Creta as opposed to 8377 units of the same month last year. It accounted 31 per cent growth.

The second and third spots are grabbed by two highly-popular Mahindra SUVs – the Scorpio and the XUV500 – respectively. While the former registered a total sales of 3775 units, the latter one clocked 2770 units. When you look at the figures, there is huge gap of 7,229 units between India’s top-selling and the second best-selling SUVs of the month.
Toyota’s highest selling SUV – the Fortuner stood at the number four, followed by the Jeep Compass (1518 units) and the Renault Duster (1046 units). The Japanese carmaker sold 1902 units of the Fortuner SUV. While the Ford EcoSport (which was at the fifth rank in April, 2018) took an exit from the list, the Endeavour (351 units) made its space at the seventh position.
Renault also managed to sale 324 units of the Captur SUV, thus making it the eight highest selling SUV of the last month. Skoda’s Kodiaq and Volkswagen’s Tiguan stood at ninth and tenth positions with a total sales of 153 units and 73 units respectively.
