The very first month of 2019 has been a mixed bag for the Indian automobile industry. Major carmakers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Mahindra recorded a marginal growth. The only car manufacturer that registered an impressive growth (23 per cent) was Honda Cars India. Whereas, Tata, Toyota, Ford and Renault witnessed sales decline as opposed to the same month last year. Here’s the list of top 10 selling cars of the January, 2019

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto – 23360 units

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire – 19073 units

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift – 18795 units

4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno – 16717 units

5. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza – 13172 units

6. Hyundai Elite i20 – 11749 units

7. Hyundai Creta – 10314 units

8. Hyundai Grand i10 – 10285 units

9. Maruti Suzuki WagonR – 10048 units

10. Maruti Suzuki Celerio – 9217 units

Key Findings:

The list of top 10 best selling cars of the month includes 7 Maruti Suzuki and 3 Hyundai cars.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto retained the top spot with total sales of 23360 units.

The Maruti Dzire and Swift managed to stand at number 2 and 3 with sales of 19073 units and 18795 units respectively.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback, which was on number 6 last month, stepped up to fourth position in the top 10 selling cars list.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezzza continues to outsell all of its rivals with total sales of 13172 units.

Hyundai Elite i20, sitting on number 6, witnessed marginal sales fall (191 units) as compared to December, 2018.

Hyundai retailed 10314 units of the Creta SUV and 10285 units of the Grand i10 hatchback.

The new-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR marked its entry in the list of the top 10 selling cars of the month. The vehicle went on sale on 23rd January, 2019.

Maruti’s all-new small hatchback, the Celerio, which was at nunbmer 8 in December 2018, slipped to the 10th position.
