The year 2016 has been a great year for the Indian four-wheeler industry with most carmakers recording decent growth. The credit for this goes to multiple new launches that took place this year, besides positive market sentiment. In order to further improve sales in 2017, carmakers are planning to launch several new products in India. Here is our list of 2017’s most-awaited cars-
This will be Skoda’s first-ever fully-fledged SUV that offers seat for 7 adults. Built on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform that also underpins VW Tiguan SUV, the Kodiaq SUV will come in two engine options – a 2.0-litre TSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. It will rival against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu MUX. The SUV will be brought into India as CKD and then assembled at the company’s Aurangabad facility. It is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 28 lakh to Rs 35 lakh.
Launch – Mid 2017
After launching Kwid Climber, Renault India is now planning to introduce the Kwid Racer special edition. Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, the Kwid Racer edition will get race-track vehicle inspired graphics and design highlights. Coming to the mechanicals, the Kwid Racer will get the same 1.0-litre petrol engine that also powers the Climber. This engine is capable of producing 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
Launch – Late 2017
The country’s most popular B-segment hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Swift will finally enter its next-generation this year. The vehicle has already been introduced in Japan, and the Indian market will get it in the second half of 2017. The new-gen model gets an all-new hexagonal grille, new headlamps with L-shaped LED units, blackened A, B and C-pillars and all-new tail-lamps. The vehicle’s cabin too receives some changes including the new flat-bottomed steering wheel and new touchscreen infotainment system, though it retains the all-black colour theme. While the Japanese model will get a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre SHVS petrol & 1.3-litre diesel engines, the India-bound model will continue to derive its power from the existing 1.2-litre petrol & 1.3-litre diesel mills. With lighter weight, the new-gen Swift will be better in performance & mileage.
Launch – Late 2017 or Early 2018
Land Rover, the British luxury SUV maker will finally launch the much-awaited Range Rover Velar SUV in India on September 21, 2017. Bookings for the car have already commenced across the country. The Velar will be the fourth model in the Range Rover family. The SUV will come with three engine options – 177bhp, 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel, 269bhp, 3.0L diesel and 246bhp, 2.0L petrol. All engines will be paired to a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic gearbox supported by four-wheel-drive system. This luxury SUV will be priced in the range of Rs 79 lakh and Rs 1.18 crore.
