The Chinese SUV – Gilly ICON – can Fight Coronavirus, claims Carmaker

Coronavirus, a new deadly cousin of SARS virus, has taken hundreds of lives and infected thousands across the world since its outbreak in China’s Wuhan region. With no vaccination developed so far, it’s only growing at a rapid pace. Now the Chinese automobile maker, Geely says that its new SUV – ICON -features an N95 Level of air filtration system. The Geely ICON’s filtration system can prevent bacteria and viruses from entering the cabin including Coronavirus.

While the carmaker claims that its vehicle can prevent CONVID-19 viruses, no independent body has cross-checked and confirmed the claim. Thanks to this unique filtration system, the company has been getting thousands of pre-orders for the Geely ICON.

The Geely Icon was first showcased in 2018 at the Beijing Motor Show, the vehicle has now been launched in China. It features a 48V mild hybrid system that works in conjunction with the SUV’s 1.5-litre turbo-charged petrol engine.

While the engine alone churns out 184bhp and 255Nm, the 48V battery gives it an additional 13 horses and 45Nm. Mated to a 7-speed DCT, the vehicle can do 0-100kmph in less than 8 seconds. Read – Top 6 New Cars At Auto Expo 2020

For people not in the know, Geely Auto Group is one of the leading automobile makers in China and own a total of 7 brands including the Swedish carmaker Volvo and Polstar. Their brand Proton also does really well in south east Asian markets. The company already sells its Volvo cars in India, and plans to bring in vehicles under Geely as well.
