Tata’s New Mid-Sized Sedan To Rival Hyundai Verna, Honda City

The new mid-sized sedan will be the second product to be developed on Tata’s new AMP platform.

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker is planning to launch a range of new cars in the Indian car market in the next couple of years. The company will launch two new premium SUVs – Codenamed Q501 and Q502 in 2018. Adding to it, Tata has confirmed that an all-new premium hatchback, codenamed X451 is also in the works. This will be the first model to be based on Tata Motors’ new AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). As per media reports, the homegrown automaker will unveil these 3 new products at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018.

Interestingly, Tata Motors is also working on a premium mid-sized sedan to take on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz. This new sedan will be designed at Tata Motors’s design studios in Turin, Italy and Conventry, UK. It will be developed on the AMP platform, and is expected to be launched in early 2019. Tata is currently selling only two compact sedans – the Zest and the Tigor in the country. Since Manza has been discontinued from our market, the company does not have any product in the highly competitive mid-sized sedan segment. The new mid-sized will share most of its design and cabin cues from the Tata X451 premium hatchback. This full-sized sedan is likely to source its engine specs from the new Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV. While the petrol version will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, the oil burner will be a 1.5-litre turbodiesel unit. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed AMT gearbox.
