Tata’s Electric Car Platform – Gen 3 – Explained

Recently, Tata Motors unveiled its two new electric SUV concepts – Curvv and Avinya. While the Tata Curvv is a mid-size coupe SUV based on the brand’s Generation 2 architecture, the Avinya is the third phase electrification plan underpinning Generation 3 (Gen 3) EV platform. Tata Group’s Chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, said that the company aims to penetrate 30% EV market by 2030.

Commenting on its expansion into EV space, the automaker says “We are benchmarking to be amongst the best and have very high aspirations”. Tata’s Gen 2 platform is said to be “about adapting architecture to be more EV ready” and Gen 3 eliminates the constraints of multi energy and provides freedom of pure EV. The home-grown automaker will manufacture batteries locally, irrespective of the government’s PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme.

Will have cutting edge features like ADAS.” That means, the Gen 3 based pure electric cars will come loaded with advanced features and technologies. Tata Avinya’s Generation 3 architecture will also be used for Tata’s future EVs. The carmaker is targeting a minimum range of 500km for all these pure electric vehicles.

The electric SUV concept appears to be a blend of a hatchback and an MPV. One of its design highlights is the new LED light signature that will also be seen on Tata’s future models. It has broad grille with slim headlamps and front splitter. The concept features pronounced wheel arches with blacked-out A-pillars and a glass roof.
