Tata’s Creta Rival SUV Under Testing? – Launch Timeline

Tata Motors will enter into the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment with the production version of the Curvv concept that was previewed at the 2023 Auto Expo. In fact, the carmaker has started testing the vehicle on the Indian roads. One of its heavily camouflaged test mules was recently caught on camera showing curved roofline extending toward the rear spoiler, small glass area and covered tailgate and taillamps.

The final production version of the Tata Curvv is likely to stay true to its concept. It will carry Tata’s new ‘Digital’ design language with a neatly sculpted bumper, LED headlamps in triangular housing and a full length LED light bar at the front. The concept has coupe-like sloping roofline with squared-off wheel arches, bold shoulder line and body cladding. At the back, it has an angular bumper, full width light bar taillamp and triangular air vents.

Inside, Tata’s Creta rival SUV is likely to feature a new touchscreen infotainment system, all-digital instrument cluster with the new user interface, a newly-designed dashboard, ventilated front seats and a sunroof.

The Tata Curvv will be designed on the brand’s Generation 2 (Sigma) architecture that supports multiple bodystyles and powertrains. It’s essentially the heavily modified version of the Nexon EV’s platform that can accommodate larger battery packs and powertrains. Tata’s Creta rival SUV will have a dual motor setup and AWD (all-wheel drive) system. It’s likely to offer a range of around 400km – 500km on a single charge. The model will also be made available with the ICE (internal combustion engine).

The petrol version of the Curvv SUV could be offered with Tata’s new 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo engine that was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo. The gasoline unit has been tuned for generating power worth 125PS at 5,000rpm and 225Nm of torque between 1,700rpm – 3,500rpm. Transmission options might include a 6-speed manual and a DCT (dual clutch transmission) automatic unit.

The Tata Curvv final production model will go on sale in India sometime in 2024.
