The 2018 Tata Tigor facelift prices fall in the range of Rs 5.20 lakh – Rs 7.38 lakh (ex-showroom).

It’s been over a year since the competitively priced Tata Tigor launched in the market. The subcompact sedan undercuts rivals substantially and is claimed to be one of the most good-looking cars in the segment. In October 2018, the Tigor has received its first mid-life update with subtle cosmetic and feature changes. The new Tata Tigor 2018 facelift has been priced between Rs 5.20 lakh – Rs 7.38 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi).

Essentially a sedan version of the Tiago hatchback, the Tata Tigor is built on the IMPACT design language. That said, it has strong resemblance to the Tiago model until the c pillar, the last quarter however, gets a fresh styling for a better look. While the new Tata Tigor 2018 retains the original design, it gets lots of chrome treatment at the front end. Other updates include new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and revised crystal inspired taillamps. The rear profile bears no resemblance to its donor hatchback, and sports new elements.

Interior of the subcompact sedan is like Tiago, sporting similar layout and other styling bits. Though, the facelifted version gets dual Black and Grey colour scheme and new chrome accents around infotainment system and air vents along with a pack of new features. Major change comes in the form of an all-new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman. While mechanical duties are carried over by the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq unit with a standard five-speed manual and AMT transmission.

As mentioned above, the pries of the new Tata Tigor 2018 facelift start from Rs 5.20 lakh and go up to Rs 7.38 lakh. The entry-level petrol model is available at Rs 5.20 lakh, the range-topping trim costs Rs 6.65 lakh. While the diesel range starts from Rs 6.09 lakh and goes up to Rs 7.38 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The competitively styled Tigor takes on the segment leader new Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent facelift, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and Volkswagen Ameo in the segment.

Power on the 2018 Tata Tigor facelift is drawn by the same set of engines used in the old model. The petrol variant plonks the 1.2-litre, Revotron motor pushing out a maximum power of 83.8bhp and 114Nm of torque. The diesel-powered version sources power from the 1.05-litre Revotorq unit tuned to make maximum power of 69.04bhp and 140Nm of torque. A conventional five-speed manual transmission is standard on the carline, albeit an AMT unit is available only on the petrol variant.

The new Tata Tigor 2018 facelift uses the same set of frugal engines including the 1.2-litre, petrol unit, and the 1.05-litre, oil burner. While the petrol engine is claimed to deliver 22kmpl, the diesel engine returns slightly more at 25kmpl.

The refreshed version of the subcompact sedan retains the original design. Though, it gets a new diamond-shaped chrome treatment at the front grille and new double barrel, projector headlamps with chrome finish. Styling bits such as chrome-accented front fog lamps, new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chromed door handles, piano black shark fin antenna, a 36-LED high-mounted stop light and revised crystal inspired taillights add more to its new look.

The Tigor mirrors Tiago’s styling till the C-pillar, while the last quarter gets fresh treatment. With a unique styling to the last quarter, the sedan looks one of the best-looking models in the segment. In a layman’s language, the Tigor is essentially a Tiago with the additional boot at the back. The boot has been designed from scratch, albeit it bears no resemblance to Tiago. Featuring slopes that flow seamlessly onto the boot, the Tigor looks more like notchbacks.

Marketed as a styleback, the Tigor is primarily a sub four-meter vehicle with 3,992mm length. Other proportions like width and height measure 1,677mm and 1,537mm respectively. It sits on the 2,450mm long wheelbase that translates into a spacious cabin. While the ground clearance at 170mm, makes Tigor compatible with Indian roads. This sub four-meter sedan offers a spacious boot. The Tigor with 419-litres of luggage compartment has the best-in-class boot space. For the convenience of occupants, it comes with a boot lamp.

Unlike the previous model, the new Tata Tigor 2018 facelift features new dual black and grey colour scheme. The new chrome accents around the air vents and infotainment system further enhance its refreshing looks. It also gets a soft touch knitted roof liner and fabric inserts on the door trim. As mentioned in the beginning, the 2018 Tata Tigor facelift is now available with all-new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman. It supports Android Auto, video playback and reverse camera assist. The list of features also include  voice command based navigation, music streaming, mirrorlink, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity and fast charging port.

Insides are in line with the Tiago, sporting similar layout, save for a few changes such as the redesigned automatic climate control unit with slightly changed design for the dials. In terms of fit, finish and quality of material, the Tigor scores well. Based on the Tiago, the Styleback gets extended wheelbase that allows more space on the inside. That said, the wheelbase has been increased by 50mm compared to Tiago. In front, the scooped-out seats offer great comfort. At the back, the seats are set low and allow space for two adults with the armrest. Even the armrest folded, it is quite uncomfortable for the middle passenger.

In terms of comfort goodies, the Styleback packs multi-drive mode-ECO & CITY, fully automatic temperature control, ePAS with tilt adjustment, driver footrest, height adjuster for driver’s seat, adjustable front headrests, central locking with flip key remote, power windows (front & rear), power-operated wing mirrors, foldable rear arm rest, auto-down driver side window, cooled glove box, boot lamp and electric boot unlocking etc.

Tata claims to have designed the cabin ergonomically with 24 storage points. The front doors get integrated bottle holders and the glove box on the co-passenger side offers enough storage space. In addition to the cubby holes, it gets segment first rear arm rest with integrated cup holder.

Safety brigade comprises day & night IRVM, ABS with EBD & corner stability control, front fog lamps, speed dependent auto door locks, follow-me-home lamps, park assist with rear sensors. Other tech such as park assist with camera, dual front airbags, rear defogger and seat belts with pretensioners & load limiters are specific to XZ and XZ (O) trims. It is to be noted that the base trims in the line-up only get engine immobilizer.

Our test report reveals, the petrol Tigor is more efficient when it comes to performance. Built on Tata’s new IMPACT design language, the Styleback is one of the nest-looking models in the segment. We feel that there is still some room for improvement in terms of performance. Boasting the best-in-class boot space, premium cabin and several segment-first tech, Tigor is a good option in the sub four-meter sedan space where it competes with Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo and ford Aspire.
