Tata Tigor Crash Test

The new Tata Altroz premium hatchback has recently became the second Tata car to be awarded with 5-star global NCAP crash test rating, first being the Nexon. Now, Global NCAP has released the crash test results of the facelifted Tata Tiago and the Tigor compact sedan. Both models received 4 star rating for the adult occupancy and a 3-star rating for child occupancy.

The Tata Tiago and Tigor facelifts received 12.52 points out of 17 in adult occupancy. The body shell integrity of the cars was found unstable and not capable of withstanding further loading. The Global NCAP specifically mentioned the footwell area, which was found unstable. However, Head and neck protection for adult occupants was good. Chest protection for passenger was adequate and marginal for the driver. Femur and knees showed marginal protection as there is risk of contracting dangerous structures behind the fascia.

Isofix child seat mounts and 3 three-point seat belts for the rear occupants are not available in the Tiago and Tigor facelifts. However, the models manage to score a 3-star rating for child occupancy. The models scored 34.15 points out of 49 in child safety.

The child seat for the 3 year old was installed FWF with the adult seatbelt and support leg and was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. The 18 month old CRS was installed using the adult belt and support leg rearward facing and the protection offered to the 1.5 years old dummy was good.

The Tata Tiago and Tigor facelifts are equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder and speed alert as standard safety features. The Tata Tiago’s direct rivals including the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the Hyundai Santro had received only 2 star safety rating from the Global NCAP. The body sheel and structure of both these models were found unstable.
