Tata Motors has showcased its exciting product lineup at the Auto Expo 2018 alongside its 26 smart mobility solutions. While the new 45X premium hatchback and H5X premium SUV concept were the major highlights of the Tata’s pavilion, the performance division was graced by the Tamo Racemo sportscar, Tigor JTP and Tiago JTP. Packed with a more powerful engine, the Tata Tiago JTP will lock horns against the Fiat Punto Abarth, Volkswaegn Polo GT TSI and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. Features such as a lowered suspension, stiffened dampers and bigger disc brakes enhance overall performance of the hot hatch.
Tata Tiago has proved to be a game changer for the home-grown carmaker in India. Favoured for its contemporary styling, well-packed interior and highly-efficient engines, the Tiago achieved one lakh production milestone in October, 2017. Within two months of its arrival, the hatchback received 20,000 bookings with a waiting period of two to three months. As a consistent performer, the Tiago helped the company achieved 52% growth with a total sales of 54,627 units in December, 2017.

With attributes such as a more powerful engine, new features and updated design, the Tiago JTP could be significantly pricier than the regular version of the hatchback. Having said that, it will still be the most affordable hot-hatch in the country – thanks to its highly-localized components and production. While the range-topping petrol variant of the regular Tiago is available at Rs 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the hot-hatch is expected to be priced around Rs 7 lakh – Rs 8 lakh. |Engine||1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo|
Under the hood, the performance-oriented version of the hatchback features a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the Nexon compact SUV. Though, Tata has further tweaked this motor to extract more power. On the hot hatch, the motor delivers power worth 120bhp. On the Nexon compact SUV, this gasoline unit offers a maximum power of 108.4bhp and 114Nm of torque.

Along with mechanical updates, the Tata Tiago JTP has also witnessed multiple cosmetic upgrades. The hot hatch comes with a new aero body kit that also results minor dimensional changes. Upfront, the performance-oriented Tiago features all-new bumper, revised grille and large air intakes. The car also comes with a set of new alloy wheels. Interior, too, has been revised with a pack of new features. Similar to the Bolt Sport, this one comes with black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitches and accents. Features such as new door panels, air vents and centre console and alloy pedals are also on offer.
