Tata Motors had unveiled an exciting product lineup at the Auto Expo 2018 alongside its 26 smart mobility solutions. While the new 45X premium hatchback and H5X premium SUV concept were the major highlights of the Tata’s pavilion, the performance division was graced by the Tamo Racemo sportscar, Tigor JTP and Tata Tiago JTP. While the Racemo project has been shelved by the carmaker, the performance variants of the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan will make their way to showrooms.
According to a latest report, the Tata Tiago JTP will see a release during 2018 festive season. Built by Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives, the performance-oriented Tiago JTP will lock horns against the Fiat Punto Abarth, Volkswaegn Polo GT TSI and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. Attributes such as a more powerful engine, lowered suspension, stiffened dampers and bigger disc brakes enhance overall performance of the hot hatch.

Compared to the standard Tiago, the Tiago JTP will have an upper hand in terms of power, features and styling. These merits will surely make the performance hatchback more expensive than the regular model. Having said that, it will still be the most affordable hot-hatch in the country – thanks to its highly-localized components and production. While the range-topping petrol variant of the standard Tiago is available at Rs 5.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the hot-hatch is expected to be priced around Rs 7 lakh – Rs 8 lakh. At the heart of the performance-oriented Tiago JTP is a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. It’s the same motor that powers the standard Tiago. Though, Tata has tuned this mill to extract more power and better performance. On the hot hatch, the gasoline unit churns out a peak power of 109bhp (110PS) against 150Nm of torque. On the standard Tiago, the engine delivers a maximum power output of 84bhp at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm.
The hot hatch makes use of a 5-speed manual gearbox, which is claimed to have optimised gear ratios. The acceleration and top speed figures are yet to be revealed by the carmaker. Though, it’s expected to be faster than the standard Tiago. Besides a more powerful engine, the hot hatch comes with a lowered suspension setup and stiffened dampers enhancing its overall performance and handling. The hot hatch also comes fitted with the bigger disc brakes. Read About – Tata Tiago Electric | Tata Tiago AMT
