The Tata Tiago JTP gets stiffer suspension and a more powerful engine.

Tata Motors has finally rolled out its first ever performance-oriented models – Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP – in the Indian market. The hot hatch and performance sedan were first unveiled in their concept avatars at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both models have been developed under joint venture of Tata Motors and Jayem Automotive. Both the brands entered into a 50:50 partnership to develop special performance vehicles in March, 2017.

Built by Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives, the performance-oriented Tata Tiago JTP takes on the likes of Volkswaegn Polo GT TSI and and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. The new Tata hot hatch comes loaded with attributes such as a more powerful engine, lowered suspension, stiffened dampers and bigger disc brakes enhancing its overall performance. Power source for the Tiago JTP is a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine delivering power worth 114bhp and 150Nm of torque.

Compared to the standard Tiago, the Tata Tiago JTP has an upper hand in terms of power, features and styling. These merits make the performance hatchback is slightly more expensive than the regular model. Having said that, it’s the most affordable hot-hatch in the country – thanks to its highly-localized components and production. While the range-topping petrol variant of the standard Tiago is available at Rs 6.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the hot-hatch is priced at Rs 6.39 lakh. As mentioned above, the performance-oriented Tiago JTP is propelled by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine borrowed from the standard Tiago. Though, Tata has tuned this mill to extract more power and better performance. On the hot hatch, the turbocharged gasoline motor dishes out a peak power of 114bhp at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 150Nm at 2,000rpm – 4,000rpm. On the standard Tiago, the engine delivers 84bhp at 6,000rpm against 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm.

Tata has also optimized the gear ratios of the standard a 5-speed manual transmission. The company claims that the Tiago JTP can do 0-100kmph in 9.95 seconds, thus making it faster than the standard Tiago. Tata Motors has also upgraded its intake and exhaust systems for achieving better performance. Besides a more powerful engine, the hot hatch comes with a lowered suspension setup and stiffened dampers enhancing its overall performance and handling. Besides the significant mechanical changes, the Tata Tiago JTP has also received multiple cosmetic changes that make it sportier than the regular model. Tata equips the hot hatch with a new aero body kit that also results minor dimensional changes. Face of the performance-oriented Tiago looks more aggressive than the standard model, thanks to its all-new bumper, blacked out headlamps, revised grille, new fog lamp housing embellished with contrasting red detailing and large air intakes. Styling elements such as new 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with side skirts and contrast finished ORVMs accentuate its side profile. Sporty changes continue inside the cabin. The hot hatch comes with a host of new comfort and entertainment equipment. Similar to the Bolt Sport, the Tiago JTP features black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitches and accents. The list of feature also includes an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, all-black interior theme, new door panels, aluminium pedals, air vents and centre console and alloy pedals.
