Tata Tiago NRG Will Be India’s Cheapest Cross-hatch; Launch Soon

Touted as ‘Urban Toughroader’, the Tata Tiago NRG is reported to go on sale later this month.

Tata Motors is planning to foray into cross-hatch segment with a Tiago based crossover. Called the Tata Tiago NRG, the cross-hatch will be offered in a single variant by the end of this month. The new Tata crossover will be put up against the Maruti Celerio X. Touted as ‘Urban Toughroader’, the Tata Tiago NRG is likely to be the most affordable cross hatchback in the country. The leaked pictures reveal that the Tata Tiago NRG comes with a black body kit that includes dual-tone bumpers with integrated silver scuff plates, black trim around the wheel arches and side skirts. The new Tata cross-hatch has been assembled with dual-tone (Silver & Black), 4-spoke, 14-inch alloy wheels. It gets smoked headlamps at the front end. With respect to dimensions, the Tata Tiago NRG measures 3793mm in length, 1,665mm in width and 1,587mm in height. Similar to the Tiago hatchback, the cross-hatch sits on 2,400mm of wheelbase. However, its ground clearance is 10mm higher than the regular model. It stands at 180mm of ground clearance.

Tata will offer the Tiago NRG in a choice of three colour schemes – Canyon Orange, Malabar Silver and Fuji White. Save for the Orange and Silver inserts, the interior of the Tata Tiago NRG looks identical to the Tiago hatchback. The list of features will be carried over from the standard model. Engine setup of the Tata Tiago NRG will include a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol and 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder diesel unit. The former makes 84bhp at 6,000rpm with 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, and the latter delivers 69bhp at 4,000rpm with 140Nm at 1,800-3,000rpm. Transmission on offer will be a 5-speed manual unit.
