Tata Nexon JTP In The Works; Launch In 2020

Tata Nexon JTP might get a tuned 1.2L turbo petrol engine with updated suspension setup.

Tata Motors is all set to expand its product portfolio with new breed cars in the Indian market. The carmaker confirmed that the Harrier compact SUV and 45X hatchback concepts based vehicles will hit roads next year. Recently, the carmaker revealed that it will launch its first JTP model during 2018 festive season. The Tata Tiago JTP will be the company’s first performance-oriented product, followed by the Tigor JTP.

Talking to Autocar, Mayank Pareek, President of Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said that the company is also working on the JTP version of the Nexon compact SUV. The report further claims that the Tata Nexon JTP might see a release sometime in 2020. The carmaker might also give the first mid-life update to the Nexon in the same year.

Powering the Tata Nexon JTP will be the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that will be tuned for generating more power output. It will also be compliant to the upcoming BSVI emission norms. In order to improve its performance, the carmaker might also optimize gear ratios of its 6-speed unit. Visually, the Tata Nexon JTP will appear sportier than the regular model. Tata might offer a body kit with performance SUV that will include smoked projector headlamps, revised fog lamp assembly with contrasting red detailing, larger air dam, side skirts, newly-designed alloys and a faux rear diffuser. Similar to the Tata Tiago JTP, the performance-oriented Nexon JTP might get an all black interior theme. Once launched, the Tata Nexon JTP will directly rival the Ford EcoSport S that costs Rs 11.37 lakh (for the petrol model) and Rs 11.89 lakh (for the diesel model). The latter comes with a 1.0L EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine that’s good for 123bhp and 170Nm of torque.
