Tata Nexon – India’s 2nd Top-Selling Subcompact SUV; Beats Venue, Sonet

In July 2021, Tata Motors managed to sell 10,287 units of the Nexon sub-4-meter SUV as against 4,327 units of the same month previous year. It recorded a Y-o-Y growth of 137.74 percent. It’s the first time the compact SUV crossed the 10,000 monthly sales mark. What’s more interesting here is that the Tata Nexon outnumbered the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet and became the second top-selling subcompact SUV in the country. The first spot was grabbed by the Maruti Vitara Brezza with totals sales of 12,676 units opposed to 7,807 units of July 2020.

Talking about India’s top 10 selling cars, Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Ertiga stood at number first, second, third and fourth with sales of 22,836 units, 18,434 units, 14,729 units and 13,434 units respectively. The Hyundai Creta, which was the fifth top-selling passenger vehicle, continues to be India’s best-selling SUV. The South Korean carmaker retailed 13,000 units of the Creta as against 11,549 units of the same month last year.

The sixth, seventh and eighth positions are taken by the Maruti Suzuki Alto hatchback (12,867 units), Vitara Brezza compact SUV (12,676 units) and Dzire subcompact sedan (10,470 units) respectively. While the Nexon stood at number 9, the Maruti Eeco registered sales of 10,057 units and Y-o-Y growth of 40.69%.

Recently, the home-grown carmaker rolled out the 2021 Tata Nexon Dark Edition at a starring price of Rs 10.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The model comes with the new Charcoal Black R16 alloy wheels, Sonic Silver highlight on the body and matte Granite Black cladding. The sporty theme continues inside the cabin as well with elements such as black interior theme with premium leatherette upholstery with tri-arrow perforations on seats and door trims.

The Nexon is currently available with the 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines delivering 86bhp with 113Nm and 90bhp with 200Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
