Tata Nexon Might Come With An AMT Gearbox Option

Tata Motors that recently launched the Tiago hatchback in the country, is now planning to bring-in the Tata Nexon compact SUV. This sub-4 metre SUV will come with two powertrain options – a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a new 1.5-litre diesel. According to a latest report, the Tata Nexon diesel might get a 6-speed AMT gearbox. If this happens, the Nexon will become the second compact SUV in India to feature an AMT gear selector, first being the new Renault Duster facelift.

The turbocharged petrol mill serves a maximum power of 89bhp with 140Nm of torque, while the diesel motor offers 108bhp with 260Nm. Unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, the Tata Nexon flaunts Tata’s characteristic Diamond DLO, Slingshot Line and Humanity Line. The car looks quite sporty with features like piano-black grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, slopping contrast roof, ceramic side finishers and 16-inch alloy wheels. It measures 3,995mm in length, while width and height stand at 1,730mm and 1,600mm respectively.

Coming to the interior, the Tata Nexon looks quite different from the existing Tata cars. Though, it borrows some of its features from the new-age Tata cars. The top-end variant of the compact SUV might get a new-generation Harman infotainment system with freestanding touchscreen display. Other features include a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls and 8-speakers audio system with command recognition and voice control system. The Nexon, with a long wheelbase and 5-seat (2+3) arrangement, can accommodate 5 adults without any squeezing effect.

Upon launch, the Tata Nexon will take on the recently –launched Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra NuvoSport and Ford EcoSport.
