Tata Motors is planning to launch several new products under its Horizonext umbrella. After receiving an excellent response for Zest and Bolt, the homegrown automaker is gearing up for the launch of Kite hatchback and sub-compact sedan in the country. Moreover, the company is also planning to introduce a new range of utility vehicles with the help of Land Rover in India. The Mumbai-based maker will launch the Nexon compact SUV next year.

It is expected that the production-spec Nexon mini-SUV will make its debut at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show in February. However, the launch is likely in the second half of 2016 around festive season. The 2016 Auto Show will also see the Kite sub-compact sedan and Hexa crossover. We informed you earlier that Tata Motors will try hard to keep the Nexon design similar to the concept. The vehicle will feature a coupe-like profile unlike other SUVs with boxy shape. To add some sporty touch, the company will raise ground clearance and offer extra body cladding.

Based on the thoroughly modified X1 platform, the Tata Nexon mini-SUV is 4 metre long, 1.73 metre wide and 1.6-metre high. It comes with a good wheelbase of 2.54 metre, while the ground clearance is likely to be around 190-200mm. This compact SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol version will get the 1.2-litre REVOTRON turbocharged unit that churns out 110PS of power and 170Nm of torque. The oil burner is expected to be the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Quadrajet unit. If reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is also planning to introduce a new 1.5-litre diesel engine with the small SUV.

The Tata Nexon compact SUV will rival against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming cars from Nissan, Mahindra, Honda and Tata Motors.
