Tata Nexon Becomes Top-Selling SUV In Dec 2021; Beats Brezza, Creta

Tata Motors has been receiving an overwhelming response from car buyers, as it become third largest car manufacturer in 2021. The company currently holds close to 15 percent of the market share. In fact, it manages to outsmart Hyundai to become the second largest automaker in December 2021.

The company has registered its highest quarterly sales in a decade, and the Nexon compact SUV accounted for a large chunk of sales. In fact, the Tata Nexon becomes the best-selling SUV in the month of December 2021. The company sold 12,899 units of the Nexon last month, recording a massive Year-on-Year growth of 88.7 percent. Tata had sold 6,835 units of the compact SUV in the same month last year.

Tata Beats Hyundai

The Tata Nexon secured the top position by beating the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the Hyundai Creta. Maruti Suzuki sold 9,531 units in December 2021 as against 12,251 units sold in the same month last year, recording a YoY sales decline of 22.2 percent. On the other hand, Hyundai sold 10,360 Venues as against 12,313 units in the same month last year. It recorded a year-on-year decline of 15.8 percent.

What’s interesting is that the Tata Nexon is the fourth highest selling car in December 2021. Maruti Suzuki sold 19,729 units of the Wagon R, 15,661 units of the Swift and 14,458 units of the Baleno.

Vitara Brezza Facelift Review

Tata Motors sold 35300 cars in December 2021, while Hyundia dispatched 32,312 units. The homegrown automaker beats the Korean counterpart by about 3,000 units, which is significant. In the last quarter, Tata Motors sold close to 99,000 passenger vehicles. The company ended 2021 with a massive sale number of 3.31 lakh units.

The Tata Nexon is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.4-litre turbocharged diesel. While the former is good for 118bhp and 170Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 110bhp and 200Nm of torque Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT. The SUV rivals the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite.
