Tata’s Nexon subcompact SUV and Altroz premium hatchback recorded their highest ever monthly sales in September, 2020. The compact SUV registered a growth of 111.37% with total sales of 6,007 units as opposed to 2,842 units of the same month previous year. With the arrival of the Kia Sonet, the competition gets fiercer in the sub-4 meter segment. The home-grown carmaker managed to sell 5,952 units of the Tata Altroz in September against 4,951 units of August, 2020. The model recorded a monthly growth of 20.22%. While Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno continues to top the sales chart, the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz stood at number second and third respectively.
In coming weeks, Tata will roll out the more powerful version of the Altroz premium hatchback. The new model will feature a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The motor pushes out a peak power of 108bhp at 5,500rpm and a peak torque of 140Nm between 1,500rpm – 5,500rpm. Reports suggest that the Altroz turbo-petrol might also be offered with a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Recently, the carmaker introduced two new, more affordable XT and XT+ variants of the Tata Harrier Dark Edition. While the XT Dark Edition has been priced at Rs 16.50 lakh, the XT+ Dark Edition costs Rs 17.30 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The company also rolled out the Nexon with a new bi-arrow theme lower grille replacing the seven tri-arrow unit. The new grille has been offered in select variants of the compact SUV.
Tata will launch two important products early next year, namely, Gravitas 6/7-seater SUV and HBX mini SUV. While the former will take on the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming new-generation Mahindra XUV500, the latter will be put up against the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
