Tata Nexon – 6 Variants Discontinued; New-Gen Model Planned

Tata Nexon is one of the best-selling SUVs in the country. Recently, the company reshuffled the variant lineup of the subcompact SUV by discontinuing 6 variants. It includes XZ, XZA, XZ+ (O), XZA+ (O), XZ+ (O) Dark and XZA+ (O) Dark. Buyers still have over 60 variants of the Nexon to choose from. No changes have been made to the vehicle and its prices. At present, the SUV model lineup comes within the price range of Rs 7.60 lakh – Rs 14.08 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

Talking about powertrains, the Tata Nexon comes with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo and 1.5L turbo diesel engine options. While the gasoline unit delivers a claimed power of 120bhp at 5,500rpm and 170Nm of torque at 1,750rpm, the oil burner promises 110bhp at 4,000rpm and 260Nm at 1,500rpm. Both engines can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.

The company is planning to give a generation change to its highly popular Tata Nexon compact SUV. While its launch timeline is yet to be revealed, we have seen multiple digital renderings previewing its design changes. If reports are to be believed, the new-generation Nexon will ditch its existing platform for the Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture (ALFA). It’s the same platform that underpins the Tata Altroz premium hatchback and the Punch mini SUV.

Significant changes are likely to be made inside and out. The all-new Nexon is likely to come with the same 1.2L petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines. Though, both motors could be more refined than their existing versions. In order to enhance its fuel efficiency, the company might also boost the subcompact with the mild hybrid technology. With this update, the new Tata Nexon will meet the upcoming stringent CAFÉ regulations and updated BS6 emission norms. This time around, the company might also offer a proper automatic gearbox. It’s likely to get a new DCT automatic gearbox similar to the Altroz hatchback.
