Tata Motors, Hyundai, Maruti, Toyota – Car Sales April 2022

Car manufacturers in India have released sales numbers for the April 2022. While most of the brands have reported sales decline due to chips shortage, homegrown automaker and few other brands have managed to double their sales.

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,21,995 units in April 2022, recording a Year-On-Year sales decline of 10.22 percent. In the same month last year, Maruti sold 1,35,879 cars in the country. The company also recorded a Month-On-Month sales decline of 8.86 percent.

Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level cars – Alto & S-Presso – reported a drastic decline in sales. The company sold 17,134 cars in the mini segment in April 2022 as against 25,041 units in the same month last year. The brand’s compact segment cars including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR – have also reported a massive sales decline. The company sold 59,184 compact cars in April 2022 as against 72,318 cars in the same month last year.

Hyundai is facing semi-conductor chips and parts shortage, which has impacted its production as well as sales. The company recorded a sales decline of 10% in the month of April 2022. Hyundai sold 44,001 cars in April 2022 as against 49,002 cars in the same month last year. The company had sold 44,600 cars in March 2022, as the Month-On-Month sales decline is marginal.

While domestic sales declined, Hyundai improved its exports. The company has exported 12,200 cars in April 2022 as against 10,201 cars in the same month last year; recording a YoY growth of 19.60 percent.

Riding on the success of new range of SUVs, Tata Motors has managed to double its sales in the Indian market. It is expected that the company could soon defeat Hyundai to grab the second spot in the list of top brands in the country.

In the domestic passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors reported a massive Year-On-Year growth of 66%. The company sold 41,587 passenger cars in April 2022 as against 25,095 units in the same month last year. However, the company’s MoM sales declined marginally by 1.67%.

Tata sold 39,265 internal combustion powered cars in April 2022, which is 60% increase compared to the same month last year. In the electric vehicle segment, Tata sold 2,322 cars in April 2022. The company had delivered 581 cars in the same month last year.

Toyota has also reported a massive sales growth of 57% in the month of April 2022. The company sold 15,085 cars in April 2022 as against 9,600 cars in the same month last year. However, Toyota’s MoM sales declined by 11.94%. The company delivered 17,131 cars in March 2022.

Mr. Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales, and Strategic Marketing, TKM said, “Demand continues to peak in the new Financial year, as we close the month of April with an overall growth of 57% over wholesales in April 2021. Along with the Crysta, Fortuner and the Legender, the Camry Hybrid too has received very encouraging booking orders. The response to the ‘Cool new Glanza’ has also been Awesome and has done very well since the beginning of its deliveries starting March this year, right from Tier I cities to rural markets.”
