Tata Motors Becomes India’s 3rd Largest Carmaker; Beats Mahindra

The past few months were quite difficult for the Indian automobile industry. The July sales figures, however, were quite encouraging. Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Renault and MG Motor registered sales growth ranging from 43.2% to 1.3%. Interestingly the major benefits came for the home-grown Tata Motors that clocked a total sales of 15,012 units against 10485 units of the same month last year. 2020 Tata Nexon Petrol Specs

Talking about Tata’s future plans, the home-grown carmaker is ready to roll out four new models in coming months. It includes the turbo-petrol versions of the Harrier SUV and Altroz premium sedan, HBX concept based mini SUV and Gravitas premium 6/7-seater SUV. While the Tata Harrier petrol will hit roads during this festive season, the HBX and Gravitas SUVs will come early next year.

The Tata Harrier petrol will come with a new 1.5L, direct-injection turbo engine, which is essentially a four-cylinder version of the Nexon’s 1.2L Revotron motor. It will initially be made available with a manual gearbox, followed by an automatic transmission. The petrol automatic Harrier is reported to feature paddle shifters along with a ‘Sport’ mode.

The upcoming 6/7-seater SUV from Tata will be designed on Omega platform and feature the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language. The Gravitas will source its power from a 170bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The Tata HBX mini SUV will be offered with 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
