Tata Motors Aims To Overtake Maruti & Hyundai In Key Segments By 2020

2018 has surely been a profitable year for the home-grown carmaker – Tata Motors. The company achieved 23.4 per cent YTD (year to date) growth and outperformed industry for 35 months. Tata kick started the year with the unveiling of its two new platforms – OMEGARC (H5X concept) and ALFARC (45X concept) – at the Delhi Auto Expo in February. With its new dual-architecture strategy, the home-grown carmaker aims to ensure “greater coverage and sizable economics of scale”. The company will roll out 7/8 new products based on the new platforms. Besides this, Tata showcased its next-generation IMPACT Design 2.0 language that will debut on the Harrier premium SUV.

During 2018 festive season, Tata Motors introduced four new models – Nexon KRAZ, Tiago NRG, updated Tigor sedan and the performance-oriented Tiago & Tigor JTP. One of the key highlights of the year includes Tata Nexon’s association with VIVO Indian Premiere League as their official partner and appointment of Hrithik Roshan as brand ambassador for the new Tata Tigor sedan.

The Tata Nexon becomes the first Made-in-India car to achieve 5 star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. The Tata Tiago, on the other hand, continued generating volume for the carmaker in the country. It was India’s second top selling entry level hatchback and recorded its highest-ever sales in August, 2018.

The carmaker also rolled out its 50,000th Nexon from its Ranjangaon plant in August, 2018. Tata’s Sanand facility won the Best Plant Safety Performance Award and received CII’s Greenco Platinum certification. Tata Motors also expanded its sales network with a total of 27 new dealerships and improved its customer service.

Tata Motors now aims to increase its market share by 90 per cent in addressable markets by 2020. The home-grown carmaker will challenge the dominance of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in the passenger vehicle segment. After the Harrier, which is scheduled to launch in January 2019, the company will bring in the 45X concept based premium hatchback against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20.
