Tata, Mahindra Plan Hyundai Creta Rival SUVs – Launch Timeline

Hyundai Creta has been dominating the mid-size SUV segment ever since its launch. In fact,  the SUV managed to maintain its lead even after the arrival of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. India’s two major automakers – Tata Motors and Mahindra – have also planned to foray into the mid-size SUV space sometime next year. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Tata and Mahindra’s Creta rival SUVs.

Tata Curvv – In 2024

Tata Curvv SUV Coupe

Tata’s Creta rival SUV will be based on the Curvv concept that was showcased at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. The model will be designed on the brand’s Gen 2 (Sigma) platform that supports multiple powertrains and bigger batter packs. It will be made available with petrol and electric powertrain options. The SUV’s petrol version is likely to come with Tata’s new 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that’s good enough for 125PS and 225Nm. It could be offered with the 6-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. The Tata Curvv electric will come with dual motors, AWD setup and offer a range around 400-500km. The SUV’s final version is expected to stay close to its concept. More details here…

New Mahindra SUV – Expected In 2024

Upcoming Mahindra SUVs

Mahindra & Mahindra is reportedly working on a new SUV that will be put up against the Hyundai Creta. It’s expected to witness a market released sometime next year. If reports are to be believed, the carmaker might introduce the new-generation XUV500 as Creta rival. It will be offered in two seating options – 5 and 7-seats. Compared to the last gen XUV500, the new SUV will be bigger and more upmarket. It will underpin the modified version of the XUV300’s platform. The new Mahindra SUV will be designed by Mahindra Automotive Design Europe (M.A.D.E). Under the hood, the model might house a 1.5L turbo petrol and a diesel engine. It could also be made available with electric powertrain. More details here…
