Tata Hexa To Share Kryotec Diesel Engine With Harrier – Report

The Tata Hexa with Kryotec engine is reported to launch by the end of 2019.

Tata Hexa, the flagship SUV from the home-grown carmaker, entered our market in January 2017. Based on the Aria platform, the SUV initially received overwhelming response from buyers.  However, its market started to crease within few months after its launch. Currently, the Tata Hexa comes with a 2.2L Varicor diesel engine that’s tuned for generating two different power outputs – 148bhp with 320Nm and 154bhp with 400Nm. According to a latest media report, Tata might introduce its new 2.0L, four-cylinder Kryotec diesel engine that will debut on the upcoming Tata Harrier. The Tata Hexa with Kryotec engine is reported to launch by the end of 2019. Inspired by the Cryogenic rocket engine, this BS6-ready oil burner makes power worth 138bhp (140PS) and 350Nm of torque.

The company will use the same diesel engine for the Harrier’s 7-seater version. Though, it will be tuned for developing higher power output – 170bhp. The new Kryotec diesel motor uses liquid hydrogen as an oxidizer that results less carbon footprints.

Built on low friction valve train architecture, the diesel motor comes fitted with advanced EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) that not only makes it compliant to emission norms, but improves its fuel efficiency as well. Read – Tata Aquilla Could Be The Name For 45X Concept Based Hatchback

Currently, the Tata Hexa SUV carline is available in seven variants – XE, XM, XM+, XMA, XT 4X2, XT 4X4 and XTA. While the entry-level XE variant is priced at Rs 12.57 lakh, the XM, XM+ and XMA are available at Rs 14.19 lakh, Rs 15.27 lakh and Rs 15.43 lakh respectively. The Hexa XT 4X2 and 4X4 variants carry price tags of Rs 16.64 lakh and Rs 17.80 lakh respectively and the XTA 4X2 costs Rs 17.80 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
