Tata HBX (Maruti S-Presso Rival) Spotted – 5 Things To Know

Tata Motors previewed the HBX mini SUV concept at this year’s Auto Expo alongside the range of its new models. Featuring off-road tyres, roof mounted spare wheel, roof rack and upright stance, the concept garnered visitors’ attention. We have seen multiple spy pictures of the vehicle revealing interesting details. Recently, its close to production model was caught testing giving us a fair idea of its final design and styling. Here are 5 things to know about the upcoming Tata mini SUV.

While its boxy stance and silhouette looks similar to the concept, the off-road tyres and roof rack are missing. The lower air-intake with tri-arrow pattern and rising beltline will preview Tata’s second-generation Impact 2.0 design philosophy. Similar to the Harrier, the mini SUV will feature bumper mounted headlamps with DRLs sitting above. Read – Tata Motors Becomes India’s 3rd Largest Carmaker; Beats Mahindra

As mentioned before, the production-ready Tata HBX will lose the off-road tyres and is likely to come with 14 or 15-inch alloy wheels. Some of its other design elements will include roof rails, a rear wiper, a raked rear windscreen, LED taillamps and rear skid plates.

The Tata HBX mini SUV will share its platform (Alfa architecture) and petrol engine (1.2L naturally-aspirated) with the Altroz premium hatchback. It will also be offered with Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol engine along with an AMT gearbox. A 5-speed manual gearbox will come as standard unit. The carmaker will also bring in its electric iteration with Ziptron electric powertrain at a later stage.

The official name of the production-ready HBX is reported to be the Tata Hornbill. The carmaker has confirmed that the mini SUV will hit roads early next year. Once launched, it will take head-to-head against the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
