Tata Harrier’s new OMEGA platform is sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker has released more details of its new Optimal Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) architecture. This platform underpins the upcoming Harrier SUV and will be used to develop larger SUVs and sedans for Indian market.

The new OMEGA platform is basically sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. This architecture has a similar wheelbase, door apertures, suspension mechanism, seating and steering positions. This platform is developed using lightweight and high tensile materials for better torsional and bending stiffness for Indian driving conditions. The company claims that the isolated sub-frame is claimed to reduce NVH (Noise Vibration & Harshness) levels. The design also has crumple zones.

Tata Harrier 5-seater premium SUV is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2019, most probably in January. In fact, the Harrier will lead the Mumbai Marathon to be held on January 20, 2019. The SUV was first previewed as the H5X concept at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. In terms of styling, the new Tata Harrieer SUV gets slim LED daytime running lights and a V-shaped grille at the front. The SUV gets strong beltline and flared wheel arches. At the back, the new Harrier gets slim wraparound tail-lights. The cabin is also equipped with high-end features including a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-functional steering wheel and a digital instrument console.

The Tata Harrier SUV will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that also powers the Jeep Compass. However, Tata will de-tuned this engine for better fuel efficiency. This engine produces 148bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox.
